brake light cel....

okay...so i leave to do some errands the other day, disengage e-brake. Notice brake light is still on, so i play with the e-brake for a little bit to see if the light will go off hoping that the cable was just a little stuck (i.e. engaging and disengaging it, i.i.e. pulling it up so it locks, and bringing it back down).

Still no luck, popped open the hood to check fluids......everything is where they are suppossed to be not too low not too high. so i turn car off, and turn it back on to the "on" position. light is still on. jacked car up to look at e- brake cable lines. all lines are good checked for tension, for rips, tears, cut-offs. nothing. SO i took the e-brake shroud to check those cables. everything is fine. SO now my question is why the hell is the light still on??? Im stumped here. ANY IDEAS would help alot.

Did you check the switch on the handle itself? That's what triggers the light, not the emergency brake being physically applied.

was too frustrated this morning and forgot to add that im a manual not auto. So ok get off from work this afternoon and on the highway the light decides to come off by it self Im like sweet thank god , but turns back on 2 blocks away from the house, and i start litteraly swearing my pants off. SO if anybody can think of anything Im all games cause im Still stumped here. could it be a module or brake sensor that went bad?? has anyone ever experienced this??

Listen to what pmhor said...there is a harness with a clip that attaches to the ebrake handle which triggers the light after the brake has been engaged. Pull the center console and check the base of the handle where it bolts to the frame.

Are you sure your brake fluid level is OK? I know you said that all fluids look good but the light normally starts to warn you of the brake fluid level getting low right below the half way point in the reservior. If thats the case you should have you brakes at least looked at because it could be getting close to the time of needing some pads replaced in the near future.

and it could be somethin in your brake lines.. fluid not flowing properly.. have you been having problems stopping lately as well?

but check for the other things first..
