Couple Issues

Want to figure these issues out before I head to the mechanic so I can buy the parts first.

1st.... Car is screeching when driving no matter if I apply the brakes or not. Been like this for the past week and it seems like its getting a little fainter. I'm guessing its the brakes but not sure.

2nd.... My car is making a squealing noise when I back up in reverse. Kinda sounds like if you had the parking brake up and you started to drive. Anyone know what this might be? Cars a 5spd by the way.

Thanks!!

the first thing sounds like metal on metal scraping.... second thing sounds like metal on metal rubbing.

I'm pretty sure the 1st thing is my brake pads are low on the drivers rear... not sure if the second thing is because of the 1st.

thanks guys.

to me it sounds like brakes all around.

how many miles since the last front brake job? rear?

buy pads and backing kit(s) and if the rotors have already been turned once, buy those too.

I had something like that happen to Max... it was a constant metal screeching i know it had something to do with my axles i forget what part but i remember the part being more expensive than the whole axle so i just replaced both of them and i no longer have a screech

who did the front brakes?

i have typically found that shops other than the dealer (and i'm not recommending the dealer do any work on your car) don't either replace the backing kit or they reuse clips and such that leads to pads not properly backing and leading to squeaks, squeals, grinding and the like. also they typically use crappy pads that are noisey as hell.

got the brakes off here and had a buddy's bro's shop do the work.... it looks like the drivers side rear pad is really thin so I'm sure that's the problemo
