Trouble starting

Recently my car has been having trouble starting, It starts right up with no problem 60-70% of the time and the battery is new, so that's not the problem, basically it just sounds like it's having a hard time turning over, I didn't know if this is the starter(please no) or what. Any suggestions would be great, also, how much would I be looking at spending on a new starter?

side note, it runs great when started, dunno if that's relevant or anything, but yeah

how many miles you have on your car?
does it just sound like the started is not spinning fast enough?

I've got 128,800 on the Maxima, I don't hear anything unusual except the engine having trouble turning all the way over, I'm not great at diagnosing problems, and I don't want to take it to the stealership to get it looked at.

Where is the starter anyway?

I got mine from autozone for $170 and a lifetime warranty. It did go out on me last year and I took it back to them and they gave me another one free.

If it starts 60 to 70% of the time with no problems I would guess that the starter is fine. Mine would usually start fine when cold but when hot would crank for a long time at lower speeds and kick back violently at times. A simple 8awg wire from battery negative to one of the starter bolts cured it instantly. Over a month of perfect starts since adding 1 simple cable. (and its alot cheaper than a starter)

sounds like the battery to me. Even though it is new, i would at least have that checked out before you go and replace the starter.

that's related to the issue with manual transmissions i think. i think the auto trans has a much larger area of grounding. worth a shot though.

I just thought of it because my trans has never been out so that killed the "dirty surface" theory.
