gains from a cat are negligible. just go to a shop and see what they charge for a new cat. like the above poster said, be sure it's EPA approved so that you can pass inspection if your state has it. i bought the warpspeed cat off ebay for $99. it is EPA approved and I passed emissions inspection. it worked great for over a year, but recently the interior parts of it fell apart, as has happened to many other buyers, and it makes a nasty rattling between 1 and 2000 RPM. i don't recommend it.

I'm running a Warpspeed Metallic substrate cat, stainless steel inside and out, with welded on flanges. I know these are more durable than the regular ceramic cored cats that Warpspeed carries....
There could be other related problems that could cause premature failure, I had no issues since I installed mine 3 yrs ago!

well, there you go. the one that people have problems with is the cheaper ceramic substrate cat, available for $90-$100, which is what I bought. you bought the metallic substrate cat, which is most likely why you've had no problems for three years in retrospect, I wish I had put the extra few bucks toward the metallic substrate model. but, you live and you learn

yep that's it, the magnaflow one. i bought mine from warpspeed but it came in a magnaflow box. it was the one for $90 something on ebay from 'warpspeedperformance'. i think they have a 5yr warranty on it but i won't even bother, because i'm sure they want the bad one first. and this is my only car . maybe after i put a replacement on, i'll send it back to them and see what happens. only thing is, i don't have a receipt anymore . doubt i'll get anywhere without proof of purchase.
