I know this has been discussed to death already, but my searching of the forums brings up hundreds of threads, some of which people love the HP's, some people hate them, some people say they are very unreliable.


I am looking for a stiffer suspension with better handling, and I was thinking of going with Eibach Prokit springs and Tokico HP blues.


The thing is, I am trying to figure out what the general consensus is on the Tokico HP blues. From what I gather from my searching so far:

The Eibach springs have the least amount of drop yet are the stiffest, thus no worries of bottoming out and they have good stiff performance.

The Tokico HP's are the stiffest strut out there to handle the stiff springs with the exception of Illumina's and that in general they hold up fairly well with the few exceptions of ones with a marred up piston during installation in which they fail fairly quickly.

Is this correct?

In a very layman's terms sort of way, yes.

Wrong. HPs are usually seen as stock replacements. If you're looking for a strut that handles well and can support a drop, go with AGXs. Or better yet, if you're willing to drop some cash, go with Illuminas.

I went with progress springs and gr-2 struts, and love them so far. Ride is firm, I wouldn't say stiff though. Couldn't see spending 400 just on struts for illuminas. The drop is even too!!!!!!!!!!

Blues are not high performance at all. They're slightly stiffer than stock, but they're closer to stock than they are to say an Illumina or KYB AGX. I had the blues with Intrax springs (not as stiff as Eibach) way back in the day. They were better than stock, but still underdamped. Then I swapped to Ground Controls with the blues and that just didn't work. Car bounced everywhere due to the lack of damping. Finally I swapped to AGX which solved the problem. So in short, Tokico blues are not a great match with Eibachs.

I have blues and they are pretty soft. Then again the ones in my car are now 7 years old and probably due for a replacement soon.

What do you guys recommend for use with Eibach's then? I know Illuminas or AGX, but those two are a bit out of my price range. Is there anything out there that is non-adjustable and cheaper yet still nice and stiff for use with the Eibachs?

What about the Tokico blue kit that comes with springs? I am looking for a mild upgrade to worn out stockers? Would these be a good combo? Lots of NYC potholes...

That's what I have. Handles well, feels comfortable enough. But as with any drop, driving over bad roads, the harsh ride will be more noticeable than with the stock suspension. I bought that combo primarily for the low price, I think I paid about $350 shipped. If you're looking for something that is a mild upgrade to stock, it's a pretty good choice.

^^about how much of a drop is it. Are the stock springs ok with the blues? And do springs even wear out?

the drop is 1.5f 1.3 rear. In my opinion, it's perfect. Springs rarely wear out, and they will work perfectly with the blues.

blues will be able to handle a drop like the eibachs. ive had my h techs and blues for about a year. no problem end of story.

What are some good short stroke shocks for the rear then?

should i just save for Koni's at the rear (match the fronts)

ive got 2" drop all round and the fronts fine but the rear is a bit bouncy, could that just be the spring rate?

sounds like your spring rate is too high for the strut to handle...

I know this is several months old, but the best I can find NOW on the Tokico HPK245 kit is $430 shipped. I don't really even care to lower the car, but if I can get the whole shmoo for $350, I would. Right now just considering new struts and mount assys...either KYB GR-2 or Tokico HP to replace worn out stockers. I really just want a nice ride that is NOT too stiff as this is just a daily driver...but I do like a slightly lowered ride with a bit of a rake to it.

Sadly I will be selling my HP 245 kit. It's way too soft for me and the drop isn't noticeable compared to other drops that are being offered. The only plus I see is getting rid of that 4x4 look!!

How many miles do you have on this set by now? When do you plan to have this ready for sale? Do you have a price figured out yet? Thanks. BTW...what do you mean by the 4x4 look (too much wheelwell showing for u)?

About 5k miles on it now I believe. I'll sell it when I have the money for my next set which will be determined as time goes on. I do plan on selling it for $350 + shipping as this is not something that can wear out quickly. These also come with lifetime warranty so there really isn't no lose lose situation for the buyer. And yes the stock setup is setup to look like a jeep. At least this drops it half that size (see sig). I want it much lower. Like s-techs.

I would put s-techs on these, but they wouldn't last too long with that aggressive drop!

i just did blues and H&Rs i love the way they ride...sporty, but comfortable...it isnt a very bone jarring ride at all
