search before posts, here is how you do it though.

1.Get in & lock the doors
2.Insert the key into the ignition 6 times within 15 seconds
3.Hazard lights should flash
4.Put key back into the ignition & turn to Accessory
5.Press the master door lock (on drivers door arm rest) unlock/lock
6.Hit the lock button on the remote
7.Hazards should flash
8.Pull key out and open the drivers door and then close it
9.It should be set

I have not tried this personally so I can't attest to it working. It's worth a try though as the dealer will charge $80 to $100.

Get in your car and close all doors;

Using your power lock switch (door switch), lock the car;

After the doors are locked insert the key in the ignition and remove it at a slow but constant speed (for '97 and earlier vehicles remove the key quickly);

When the hazard lights flash, put key in the ignition and turn the ignition to the ON postion (do not crank the engine or you will have to start over);

With the ignition in the ON postion hit the LOCK button on remote. The hazard lights should flash (note: you have to reprogram all of the remotes when adding a new one. If you don't your old remotes will not work);

If your doing just the one, turn the igntion switch OFF and unlock the doors;

Get out and try it;

If you are doing more than one fob, while still in the vehicle with the ignition in the ON poistion, after you hit the LOCK button on the remote and the hazard lights flash, with the key still ON use the master lock switch, unlock the doors and relock them. Then hit the second remote, the hazard lights should flash again.

Repeat this if adding a 3rd remote.

When finished turn the key OFF and unlock the doors.

Get out and try the fobs.

I've always wondered why people call it a key "fob". Did a little research and this is what I found out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_fob

Just thought I'd contribute something of interest to this poor thread...

Lame thread? To you it may be, but to me its trying to program my remote. Im sure when you have a dilemna you try your hardest to get it fixed, and when someone else calls y our dilemna lame, im certain that wont make you happy. Sometimes the saying " If you havent good to say, then its better to say nothing at all". I honestly dont see any point in the lame comment, to me its important. All others thanks for your help, i got it to work.

Dude are you serious? Do you have nothing better to do? If not i recommend looking for a hobby. Obviously i had a problem i was addressing, i really didnt need you to throw a wrench in my spokes. When you become a admin or a mod, or maybe a human being then we will talk. As for my remote issues once again thanks to those who actually attributed knowledgeable information, I think thats what these forums are for, NO???

Yes it's a lame and worthless thread. At least three people already told you to search. Why is this thread lame/worthless? Because it might have well not existed. The .org is not a better place because you created it. It did no one any service other than saving you the time of searching. The topic has been raised and question answered a countless amount of times. You should do your due diligence of searching before posting a repeated question.

hey i know how you feel about how you just had a quick simple problem which was easily answered, and i felt the same way about a month or two ago when i joined, but honestly, now im starting to get why people get so annoyed and make replies like that. don't take offense to it, you'll soon understand.

I have bought a new remote for my 1996 maxima and I have gone through all the steps but it is not working . I go through the step that I insert the key 6 times and the hazard lights flash , I insert the key and turn it to ACC or ON mode (tried both) and press the lock button on the remote but nothing happens !!
I have checked the battery of the remote and it is working fine ! I talked to the dealer and they said they use the same procedure !! any idea about this?!

Sounds like your Maxima's memory is full, and isn't allowing a new keyfob to be programmed.

Have you read your owner's manual? I believe it addresses how to clear your Maxima's keyfob memory, and allow you to start from scratch.
