Fog light alternative rewire?

I want to wire my foglights so that I can simply turn the fog light switch on the combination light stalk and it will turn on ONLY the fog lights. Has anyone done this? I was unable to find any info, obiously I found the other fog rewire, but that is not what I am shooting for.

Anyone have any opinions or advice before I pull wiring down?

Matt

Just cut the Green/yellow wire running into the front fog light relay... then the wire running into the relay just connect a wire from that to the positive on the battery. tape put everything back together and enjoy...

That sounds like what I want to do, as long as the fogs don't turn on with the ignition, only when the fog switch is on. Sounds like what I want man thanks!

They wont turn on with the ignition. Only when you have the fog light switch on.

I think you would much rather have them turn on when the ignition is turned on and not whenever the switch is on as you can forget and kill your battery.

That is exactly what I was worried about, and what I was trying to ask, I don't want to have constant power to the switch, only ign power. But from the sounds of it that is what the write up's wiring offers.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

The link above will only have the fog lights independent once the key is on ACC. Afterwards you can do whatever you'd like, fogs only, parking lights and fogs, etc.. When you take the key out of the ignition the fogs will turn off regardless of the switch position.

If you see it's a link to vqpower, why didn't you go to vqpower and look for it yourself?

As mentioned above...just go to the relay under the hood, and cut the green/yellow wire. Cut the wire with enough length on the "relay side" so that you can extend it.

If you want it to come on independently of everything...just run it to a constant 12volt (like the battery). Thats all there is to it.

wire them to the wiper relay and you can use them any time the key is in. i don't recommend wiring them so that they can turn on at any time, cause you would sometimes forget to turn them off. trust me. i think they can be wired to the headlights, i would test the wires with a voltmeter though.

fwiw, i did the wiper relay method, and then taped everything back up and wired to the clearance lights. i much prefer this method, and it cost less than a dollar. very cheap, very aesthetically pleasing mod. only drawback is that you must turn on the parking lights, but i personally like the way it looks with all the lights on but the headlights...

when i did mine i got a 3 wire switch, one came from the fog's and back to the relay and the other 1 i put to the radio fuses so when i turned off the car and the power off to the fogs.

I just did this today. Took me an hour. Though my fogs are completely independent, as long as the ACC is on. Big plus about wiring it to the wiper relay is you only have to play with the wires in the relay box, and not elsewhere, like behind the cornering light.

that is not true. what a strange rumor.

it could be in my head, but i think the wipers got just a LITTLE bit slower, but nothing terrible. it's not like you can't use your wipers at the same time as the fogs or anything ridiculous like that lol

This is not true. If it is wired properly, the feed to the wiper relay merely acts as a switch, and does not feed the fogs directly. I noticed no decrease of performance of either the fogs or the wipers when one or the other is/is not on.

If you notice a difference, it's either wired improperly, you have a short, or the charging system is failing.

Would this work for the headlights? I'd love to have my headlight switch always set to "on" but the lights only turn on when the car is in ACC or ON mode.

Its possible. I'd think the best way would be to wire in a relay to the wire supplying the feed to the hlight in the fusible link. Splice a wire into one of the wires coming off the ACC on the ignition switch, and use that for your signal wire on the new relay.

You don't want to feed the headlights of the ACC on the ignition, as that only has a 30amp fuse on it. Depending on what you have upgraded in your car, you could easily find yourself blowing a fuse everytime you turn on the lights.

back from the dead-- most recent/best thread i could find though.
(im not stupid)

this thread has two different versions of wiring (post 12)

I used the light green wiper wire..

any one else have their fog lights turn off when the car is ON and low beams are ON?
if the key is in ACC, fogs work as planned.
if the car is ON and parking lights are on, the fogs work too. but flip to low beam and they turn off. flip to high beam and they turn on!

im just gonna put it back to factory, or go to the fuse box inside and make it my own way. :P
