well it could mean one of several things:
Your temp sensors could be broken.
If it doesnt blow cold air you could need a freon recharge.

My '97 does the same thing, hot air when hot outside, cold air when cooler outside. And it's full of freon. Compressor and fans come on when A/C is activated. Big pipe from compressor going into firewall is usually cold and sometimes warm, small pipe coming from firewall is cool sometimes. Anyone have any ideas?

Most likely the charge is incorrect.
Have the system evacuated and recharged correctly.

On mine, I thought it was low on freon cuz it would cool sometimes, brought it in to get it checked, it had more then what it should've had, so it was evac'd and had the proper amount put in.

I have a 03 maxima gle, and my a/c blows out cold air in the begining then it stars blowing out hot air. I proceed to turn it off for a minute, then I turn it back on and it gets cold. After awhile the temperature gauge starts rising to hot, where i proceed to turn the a/c unit off until it goes back down. I have changed my thermostat, and added freon to it..and i am still having this problem..it blows cold, then hot..sometimes it takes about 4 or five times of me cutting it off and on to get it to run cold and then all of a sudden my temperature gauge goes up as if my car is running hot.

You have a 5th gen, this is the 4th gen forum.

Go to the proper forum and ask there, the answers will help you better than here.

BUT since you are here, you probably didn't bleed the cooling system properly. Search for the proper way to bleed the cooling system and try again.
