99 Manual Maxima Brown Tranny Fluid

Hi guys, today i was doing the whole front end on the max (both axles, *****, and links). The thing is that when i pulled out the driver side axle, there was a crap load of light brown fluid that spilled out (very clean, not dirty). I was confused because tranny fluid is suppose to be red from what I have seen in my past experience.

I have also never done a tranny fluid change on 5/6 speed, always auto.

Can someone explain to me if its okay for a different color fluid to be in the tranny... and is it a manual transmission thing?

Thanks,
Ken

Manual trannies use gear oil.
Auto trannies use transmission fluid.

Gear Oil = Brown IIRC unless it is "REDLINE", then it's red, or if it's "ROYAL PURPLE" then it's purple.

That makes sense. So I should replace the gear oil with the factory recommended 80w-90 GL-4?

Thanks for your help.

Make sure you check in the group deals section, that stuff is really high priced in the stores.
