oil drain plug washer?

I know its a lame question but....
I looked with the search and couldn't find an answer.
So I just got a new plug and 10 washers from courtesynissan. So my question is about the washers and how to install them. they are the weirdest looking washers I've ever seen. They are not flat like all the other ones I've ever seen and used. I think they screw on to the plug but which way do they 'look'?

usually safe to put flat side against the surface i.e. the oil drain pan.

So does that mean to put the small hole to be on the plug side?

Flat side is plug side, open side is pan side.

They are crush washers, that's why they look different than a flat washer.

Just curious...

Any of you ever "needed" to replace one of these washers?

I'm on my original washer from when I bought mine at 25k miles.

It has 139k now and still no leaks from the drain plug.

Been giving this car an oil change with mobil1 oil and filter every 5k miles.

At both Nissan and AAM we replaced them with every oil change. For the ~30 cents they cost (and generally they're given out for free when you buy a filter from the dealer), why not? Best to take a minute during the oil change, rather than having to drain and refill the oil later if the washer leaks.
