Salvage title 99 SE. worth $3000?
im looking at a 99 SE 5spd with 117,xxx miles for $3000 but it is a salvage title. body looks real straight and all the seams line up, no gaps or one side shifted over. he says it was a theft recovery not crashed. will the carfax state why its rebuilt/salvage? has black leather, sunroof, cold a/c, shifts fine and brakes fine.... no CEL... i forgot to copy the vin to buy a carfax and im waiting for him to email me it.

dude, cop that ish now (5spd black on blacks are mad hard to find, took me 8 months). That's not a bad deal with 117k. It is prob just like my car. and I paid more and had 140K on it, but not much more, I got a good deal on mine as well and that was 2 years ago.

I would make them an offer of 2200-2500 bucks myself. The car is probably worth 3000 with a clean title and salvage titles generaly knock off about 25-40% of the cars value.(depending on the severity). Salvage tiles SCARE most people off so you are probably in a pretty good posistion to negotiate.
hope this helps and good luck

You're probably looking at some work with a salvage title (people don't junk their cars for no reason). If you're willing to put elbow grease into it, I'd say go for it (although still try to haggle them down). However, I got mine from a used lot for $4000 with a clean title and nothing wrong but a broken antenna; if you don't wanna put a lot of work in it then keep looking, deals are everywhere.

I'd keep looking....there are sooo many 4th gen 5mt's out there. Be picky and you'll eventually find the one you like. It took me over 4 months of looking before I found my car.

yea but alot out there without a perfect black leather interior and just rides awesome! i dont see any weld points or seams in the trunks or engine compartment. nothing under the car. i really think its a theft recovery.

Just have it properly inspected, you would be surprised how many "clean title" cars I've seen in worse shape and patched up more times than one with a "salvage title". Just verify the mileage and that it has no frame, alignment problems or water damage, check the connectors and the carpets.
Good luck!!

one thing you can check that i learn from a dealer is to pull the seat belts all the way out and smell the end of it and see if you see water damage evidence. most ppl dont think of cleaning/checking that, just a good tip i learn that i want to pass along. also do a carfax(as every1 already said), if you going to spend 3k might as well spend $30 to get a bit more peace of mind.

Another tip is to look under the driver side pedals and see if there is rust, under the seat rails put the seat all the way back and look and then all the way forward, in the trunk under the dummy tire any water residue, do the headlights line up perfectly, foglights light up? Go around the car and tap on the panels, if the car had an accident, it will make a distinct sound of bondo being there. Ask to take the car and have it put it up on a lift and see. Worth the few extra bucks. Got any pics?

Just so you know it's Sunlint Sand on the 99+ Maxima's.

run far far FAR away. Trust me, been there done that. Hummmm, the salvage titled i30 that my buddy bought, or should I say the salvage titled I30'S that my buddy bought. Was 2-different cars welded togethor almost in the middle, every major harness had been completely respliced, I had to take the driverside axle nut off with a 3/4" braker bar & 8 feet of pipe. The door pins were whicked worn and when I went to replace the ds ones the door wouldn't shut afterwards, lights would flicker, it would get a new CEL every week but you would clear it once and it would go away. It needed a steering rack. I had to do two powersteering pumps, the a/c compressor, and every single suspension peice was FAWKED up bad.
Then there was my '87 300zx, it had bright red paint and looked great I was told that one was a recoverd theft and the interior was stripped, hahahahaha, yeah hummm I'm thinking NOT considering the entire right front was re-welded at a major part iof the uni-body which later cracked after the most minor fenderbender and the insurance company wouldn't pay out for that one because of existing damage. It had an '85 non-turbo fed emmisions ecu, and yet it never ran right when I put the correct one in it, this was just the bigger stuff, but it really did neeed new everything (but the pain and interior was perfect )
