Jerk?

Car started a weird 'jerk' today. While in D, with the brake depressed... car will suddenly jerk. No movement in the car, just enough to be annoying. I suspect the fuelpump is the culprit, but anyone else come up with anything similar and solved the problem?

More info: It varies in the intensity of the jerk, and it's not something that happens at regular intervals. It's enough to startle passengers. I only notice it while fully stopped at lights. No noticable jerks while driving.

Jerk as in misfiring? or as in it wants to stall out?
How does it go when in drive, no brakes, no throttle, just creeping at its own pace?

Going to check now...

Feels similar to a misfire, I would guess.

No codes are being thrown.

I've had coil packs go... they threw a code and caused the car to run like ****.

And let the car cruise around the neighborhood, no jerks while in that situation. two while in park at the stoplight.

And only in D?
If you pull up and place it in Neutral, is it fine, or same problem?
And these jerks are random, yes? theyre not every X seconds?

Completely random. I've tried timing them. Sometimes it'll happen every ten seconds, other times they'll happen once during a 5 minute stop.

Never had them in N. But to be honest, I don't spend a lot of time in N. Car is Auto, if that makes a difference.

Just leave it in "N" for a min or two. If youre getting the same thing in "N" then its gonna be something to do with combustion, or atleast something around your cylinders, if it only occurs in "D" then it could be your transmission.
And you should spend plenty of time in N reving that engine.....otherwise you'll never get laid dude, haha

<----isn't a ricer, and therefore doesn't rev engine.

To get back on topic, you're misfiring. You're feeling it so badly because you're in a drive gear, the only thing holding you back from movement is your foot on the brakes.

Coils don't necessarily throw a code, or always make the car run like ****. I chased around random misfires in my car for a few months, everything ran perfectly most of the time but would get random misfires at low engine speeds, i.e. stopped in gear. Coil packs solved that problem, after looking past them and diagnosing a hundred other things.

Cliffs: check your coils.

Really, I think that's your cv joints. I had a similar problem a few weeks ago, changed the cv joints and no more jerking.

Really? CV joints? When the car is standing still? I don't buy that. I agree it's more likely a coil(s).

Well, if it happens to be CV joints (which are busted.... 170k miles, apparently they were never replaced by original owneer) then I'm in the clear, since they are getting replaced this week.

I picked up new coilspacks, as well. We shall see.

I had this happen to me in a school neon on a trip for soccer club. the engine was all jerky when I put it in gears and then eventually when we stopped for dinner and were gunna leave. The engine would go in drive but not move and thus the tranny went out. So good luck but i think it maybe the tranny.
