break question

My car is making some weird noise from the front, its very hard to describe the noise and i cant record it or anything because it only happens sometimes . But when i apply the brakes the noise goes away. Its like a uuuu sound any you can feel the floor vibrate. when i bought the car i changed the brakes on it , rotors and pads but i noticed that the pins that separate the pads weren't there . my question is are those pins needed ? can this be the problem ? anyone had something like that happening to them ?

not sure what pins you are talking about but if i were you i would take the caliper off and see if the pads are wearing unusually or you can see something else.

How many miles are on the pads?

You mean the spring wires? I installed a set of pads that didn't have the holes and I drilled them.

YES these are needed, as far as last time I just changed all my pads and put new rotors on, these are needed to prevent the pads from "sticking?" against the rotor which is the sound you are hearing as this happened to me, and pull them away a little bit. It also helps if you use the anti squeak pad stuff on the back of the new pads in between the shims. If you buy pads, and they don't have the "spring wire" I would return them right away as they are not the correct pads for the car, even though they fit, this happened to me until I got the Hawk HPS Pads, which have amazing stopping power...
