Wheel Bearings help.

need help from org members again.

I had a whining noice comming from the front of the car and i took it to couple of mechanics an was suggested the following.. I have been getting this sound for about 2-3 months at least (mostly from the drivers side)

sears auto
------------
driver side hub bearing needs replacement and not comments about passanger side

stealership
------------
driver side needs and the hub and bearings and so does the front passenger side..

i am confused if the have to
a) change just the driver side bearing and leave the hub unchanged
b) change driver side bearing and hub
c) change both driver side and passenger side bearing and leave the hub unchanged
d) change both dirve and passenger side bearing and hubs?

thanks for you help org members

the hubs go bad all the time. I posted a thread a couple years ago about mine that was bad and people came out of the wood work posting pictures of their hubs that were ruined when when their wheel bearing went bad.

I apologize for piggy-backing an existing thread, but I think I have a similar problem.
There is a slight rubbing sound eminating from the drivers side or my car. It speeds up and slows down with the speed of the car, and dissapears when I apply the brakes.
The owner before me did the big brake conversion, and I think it may just be the pads rubbing. The only thing thats throwing me off is that there is a clicking sound when I'm backing up.
Is this a bearing or hub, or is this just the pads rubbing?
Thanks in advance!

Caliper brackets. Make sure they are tight, make sure the shims are good, make sure both guide pins float freely. Probably need to tear it down & clean/inspect/regrease properly. So many people do brakes and don't know what where and how to clean & grease the caliper brackers. May need to replace due to worn guide pins, could also have a poor fitting break pad (evidenced by clicking, spin the wheel backwords in the air and you should be able to watch the pad move in the holder (holder=caliper bracket)

Since i dont have a spare car if i need extra time to fix.. i am planning to take it to the shop and pay them to do the labor. I bought parts from dave b from southpoint nissan.. original cheaper then autozon/napa/etc

from research labour is anywhere between 145-160 for bearing job.
local dealer wants 145, sears wants 155, local mechanic want 145... i am leaning towaing sears for my job since i alignment is required and sears does it for 70. this jobs per them takes 2 hours to unpress/press the bearling

I did not take pictures of mine, the bearing was loose on the hub. I am a DIYer and the guy that was pressing my bearing into the knuckle brought it to my attention. Went and bought a new hub. Much tighter fit.

As far as first poster, I don't know where you live, but several tire shops in Okc will check your allignment for free. If it is out then they will charge you to adjust. If they put everything back in as take out you shouldn't need an alignment, unless it needs one already. $150 sounds reasonable. BTW

Good luck

Thanks!
Roughly how much should i be looking at for a mechanic to do the job? Hour wise, that way I can apply it to our labour costs.
