Starter Possibly?

I have done alot of searching and havent found anything that could be my issue. I am thinking it is the starter but who knows. Since the weather has gotten cold when I first start my car up either in the morning or after work, it sounds like one of those old 20's car's horns lol. I keep trying and eventually it will turn over. I know that on my mustangs the bendix's can go out and instead of them engaging the flywheel correctly the teeth hit and it sounds kinda similar. Do you guys think its just a grounding issue or is this a tell tale sign of a going out starter. I found this car for dirt cheap but damn it is killing me on repairs ie axles, axle seals, calipers, rotors, and now this

i would check the grounds first... you can take the starter apart and clean the brushes and stuff but i would go the easy route first.. check the grounds...

add some good grounds. More importantly remove, inspect and clean all of your connetions, both at the starter and the battery.

Mine was doing the whirring sound after start on cold days, so about 2 years ago I took it apart and regreased and cleaned inside that gear assy. It just left my wife stranded in Lowes parking lot in the bitter cold. It was clicking and occaisionally grinding very softly. battery and alternator had just been replaced. Replaced starter with the new 10 gear style and it starts better than ever. should have just replaced it instead of cleaning it before. These starters do seem pretty lightweight. You can gert one on ebay for about $75 including shipping.
