Hey guys, I lucked out and snagged a real nice gray Infiniti I30 autodim mirror from the junk yard and am trying to install it.

As far as mounting it, I have no problems, but wiring it I have run into some issues.

How exactly am I supposed to run these wires here? In the hole where the mirror normally mounts to is some metal bodywork (part of the roof) and the headliner is snug up against it, I can't run any wires through there toward my windsheild. Has anyone done this before and have any tips on how to run these wires?

I will probably also be making a run of wire to hardwire my radar detector as well. Hopefully there is enough room in the headliner for that.

ya i did it and ran the wires through the headliner. it was last summer tho so i dont remember the exact details. youll get it tho, its not hard. good luck.

Thanks, I guess my headliner is just a bit tight around the mirror area. I think I can get away with drilling a little hole through it (still covered up by the auto dim mirror housing though) and I should be good.

Bummer, on a sidenote all the plastic clips and my a-pillar cover broke. Oh well, what superglue was made for I guess haha.

I did one on my 95. Only i took it from a Toyota...so it now hangs from the windshiled instead of the roof. Its got the auto dim feature, as well as outside temp display, and compass. I love it.

Well...everything was going great. I decided the headliner was pinching the wires a bit so I was going to drill a little hole that would be covered by the mirror so the wires could pass through.

Well...the ****ing carpet caught the drill bit and is now torn and sagging. Wonderful. The whole point of hardwiring my radar and doing the mirror was to make my interior look nice and clean. So much for that.......it looks like horsesh!t now....


I had a ****in nice car....at this point I don't even know if I can even think about saying that ever again unless I get an entirely new headliner.

Sorry to hear this I used a pencil to push the wires under the headliner when I hardwired my radar and hooked up the i30 autodimming mirror. I used the writeup above and I haven't looked back. The autodimming mirror was one of the few things that I was disappointed that my Maxima didn't come with.

Aw man that really sucks, you should be able to easily get a new headliner from someone parting out a car. Not many people buy those so I bet there are alot of spares around. Dont get too pissed, you should be able to get one for cheap and they arent too hard to replace. Then when you are doing that you can run all the wires you want

Haha, that's my writeup from 3 years ago. Glad you found it helpful but sorry to hear about your headliner. I was able to peel mine back a little bit around the window.

Well, most of the torn part of the headliner is actually covered by the sun visor, and a lot of it is covered up by the auto dim mirror, so it didn't turn out too too bad. I can see where the carpet sags a wee bit in front of the sunroof controls.

I am thinking about using a syringe to inject a tiny little bit of elmers glue through the carpet and try to stick it back up. I know it still won't be wrinkle free but it should look better.

Anyway, great writeup! Everything went smoothly except for the headliner.

I will get pics up of my install later. I hardwired my radar detector too. It's official, my baby is now all i30itized. Only thing I didn't snag was the electronic gas door and chrome interior door handles, but I can do without the gas door thingy and I like the looks of the black interior handles.

I've done two of these installs in the past month, and snacking the wires across the headliner is difficult but dont pull to hard or you will rip it apart.

Dropping the map light worked great for keeping my work illuminated.


Dropping the map light worked great, because between the 4 wires for the mirror and the two for the radar detector, my 70ft bundle of wire would not have been enough. Here you can see where I installed my ground wire for the radar and my ground for the mirror.

God I love those i30 headrests too.

Man I love it, this thing works incredible at night. I hated the old standard flip mirror because it was either you get completely blinded or you flip it and you almost can't see anything at all.

The auto-dim seems to always just have the perfect amount of dim so you are still aware of everything going on around, but aren't blinded.

Sucks, but next time you do something like that I recommend you using some wide strong tape. Should take care of the ripping.

Looks almost identical to mine, except my radar is on the drivers side (that way when my passengers try to use the visor, they don't knock it off). I think the i30 autodimming mirror was definitely one of the best mods I have done so far and would recommend it to anyone who does a decent amount of driving at night.

looks good, but regarding the radar detector, i think the tinted strip on the windshield up there might reduce its effectiveness.

Nice! Yea I thought about that, but unfortunately that way wouldn't allow me to use my drivers side visor. As soon as I see a passenger reach for it I stop them though.

Perhaps a wee bit, but I haven't noticed a reduction at all. I recently changed it up just a wee bit so the detector points down a bit more kinda along my hoodline because the cops radar and laser at around the front bumper/grill area. Another plus about it being up there that I like is it is a bit more stealthy so it can't really be seen from the front or the rear of the car. Especially now that it is hardwired.

I remember some guy on here literally put his detector where the clock is, and although I wouldn't do that, I'm pretty sure he said it still worked. So I figure if it could detect some from behind a firewall....the tinted glass shouldn't be too bad.

I searched the forums here and ebay. It seems like on ebay they let them go for about 45ish + shipping, though black interior i30's with the auto dim mirrors seem pretty rare, it is tough to find on ebay. Also on ebay it is sketchy getting a mirror with a good pigtail, the cover, or the mounting plate.

On the forums here it seems like in the classifieds they go for about that much for the tan ones, but I think I saw a grey one go for 80 or 90.


Mine, I lucked out and found a wrecked i30 with black interior at my local pull it yourself junkyard. Prices were hella cheap.

I got the mirror for 5 bucks and both headrests for 10.


EDIT: you got a tan interior? There was a tan i30 there too. I am not sure if it had the mirror still in it, but are you interested?
