Will a 95-96 BCM work in my 99?

I think I need a BCM as my rear license plate light (right one) doesn't work, my dome light no longer has an auto function, and my keyring light is out. Also, not sure if the bulb died, but my little push drawer near the shifter doesn't have light either.

I found one for a 95-96 (w/ keyless) and am wondering it'll work in my 99. I guess the one I need HAS to have keyless...but do the years matter?

don't quote me on that but they are all the same (having in mind the keyless issue).
That's why all the remotes are the same for all the years.

The rear license plate lights are on one circuit. If the only the right bulb is out, then it's the bulb or the bulb socket. I suspect your dome light issue might be a door pin problem and the other lights out are probably bulbs as well. There is no light in the push draw, only a small bulb in the ash try which is connected to the dash lighting circuit.

Me thinks BCM isn't your issue......

Okay let me try to rephrase...

The bulbs in the license plate are literally BRAND new.

My door switch is fine as my door lights come on just fine when I open the door or go off when I close it.

My keyring light works if I ground the dome light (to the metal roof). If I don't ground, only the dome light works (and only in the ON position - furthest to the left if you're sitting in the back seat).

My ash tray (I called it the pushout drawer) bulb is fine. I checked it just now and it was on.

It's NOT a bulbs or fuse issue. I know enough to check those first.

By the way have you looked into the FSM?

The ash tray illumination does not go through the BCM.
The license plate lights do not go through the BCM either.

I'm suspecting something else besides the BCM

Do the dome lights and key rings go through the BCM? What page was that on anyway?

Then it's a socket issue, that complete assy is known to rust out over time. Mine did, your in NY state, even worse conditions for rust. Pull the assembley out and check it over electrically. You'll find your problem is with the light assy.

Ground problem?
My ash tray (I called it the pushout drawer) bulb is fine. I checked it just now and it was on.
Problem solved!

OK, good, you've ruled those out. Now start troubleshooting the circuits, look for rusty, bad, connections, bulb sockets, and ground problems.

Don't waste your time looking at or changing the BCM, it's not causing your problems.

I'll look some more when I have more time.

For test purpose you need to get at the red with white strip wire and jump it to ground. Trust me on this. This wire is accessible at the interior lamp switch, key hole or the BCM. Just take a jumper wire and connect it to any good ground and connect the other end to a bare area on the red with white strip wire. The keyhole lamp and interior lamp should turn on when you do this. If they do light up the problem is because you are not getting the correct signal from the BCM. That MAY indicate a faulty BCM.

If the keyhole and interior lamp do not light up when you jump the red with white stripe wire to ground the BCM is probably OK and something in your wiring is causing a problem.
I did this test and my dome light and key ring turned on. So this means my wires themselves are okay. The BCM controls the functions of on/off...which is where I start having issues.

I think it's the BCM. After reading those two quotes...are you still sure it's most likely not? I'm trying to sell this car and have some hits but would like to fix this tiny problem before I sell it.

For a 4th gen w/ keyless? That would be awesome if you did...I'd give the $20 for shipping/lunch for helping me out.

I assume you're from NYCM but I don't recognize your screen name.

Ilya, I am very interested in your results. I said before I have the same issues, knowing if my BCM needs replacing would be great.

Side note: do your hazards flash when you lock the car like they should?

Did you try swapping the license plate bulbs to see if the same side is dead?

So only things that don't work are the key light ring and the dome light (if set to auto) which could definitely be a BCM issue.

Teaner, you still have the BCM? Is it 97-99 with keyless?
