who has them,did you do the proper 500 mile break in??

i drive fast and in atlanta it's always 80 mph on the hiway even bumper to bumper. so i was just curious how long did you wait?

i am just a little gun shy at this point on how much stress i can put on them.

Don't get overly concerned about the 500 miles number... The idea is to let the rotor/pads cycle several times through hot to cold... Gradually! Run them up to hot then let them cool down by driving them without braking too much... park it for a few hours until they are cold. So long as you don't go out and 'race' with them immediately after putting them on, you'll be ok.

Remember... never spray hot rotors with water!

BTW... the crossdrilled and/or slotted rotors don't do much for actual braking performance... get good pads!

 

thank you i was a little concerned. and yes i do have porterfield pads. so i have put about 100 miles on them , and will put about 300 on them in the next few days. hehehehehehe

 

so that's why my rotors get warped so damn fast.....when I get home after driving and wash my car my brakes are still hot...dammit...

 

It makes sense. Are those powerstops that nice silver finish? Or fugly bronze like finish?

 

they were bronze..... however with a steel brush i made them silver.. and then painted them with metallic paint. the brake pads removed to paint where they touch. you can see all of the rotor through my rims so i painted them. if it does not work... i will get some high temp paint and redo it until it works

 

I thought the powerstops were silver. Thats a good idea to wire brush them.

Follow the proper procedure for bedding new brake pads and you shouldn't have to do anything else for new rotors.

 

then why do some race cars and semi trucks have watersprayers for there discs? seems to me it would warp them ,just curious

 

They aren't really cooling them, they are helping them stay cool. They spray when they are still racing and putting heat into the brakes at the same, creating an equilibrium so to speak. When you spray rotors when you wash your car, you are only taking heat away in an uneven pattern.
