Any suggestions on removing a lug nut when you do not have the key? I have tried drilling into the lug nut with little success. Is there a universal key? Thanks.

I've used one of those air powered jackhammer things(forgott what they called) to spin the nut off. It took a while and destroyed the nut but it's off now.

find a socket that fits the nut.
pound it on with a hammer.
use an impact wrench to remove the nut.
you'll likely loose the socket and the nut on accounta you'll never get them separated.

try banging a smaller socket onto the lock. This is typcialy what someone does when they gonna steal your wheels
i had to do it once when i broke the key

worst case scenario it will have to be torched off. it depends on the style of the wheel and nuts. air hammer usually does the trick. post a close pic of the wheel and lugnut area and we will be able to tell you the best thing to do. or you could just get a new wheel lock key.
or just get the right tool for the job

The second link to ebay is the tool you want.
Just hammer it hard onto the lug nut and blast it off with an impact gun.
They work great!

call yoire local nissan dealer as i remember i had a lot of customers lose there key, if the lock set is oem equipped, the dealer tech's have a set of all OEM key's
Thanks for all the help. I tried hammering a 9 mm socket into the star design but had little success. Lost 2 9mm sockets before saying there has to be something better. I will have to break down and purchase the lug not removal kit posted on e-bay.

go to any tire shop... they usually have spare keys, try a couple because more than likely one will have a spare key... only 2 in my area had the keysOriginally Posted by keener

I ordered the lug nut removers that screw onto the old lug nut in a counterclockwise direction, but I am skeptical this will work on my lug nuts since they are uniform in circumferance (no edges to bite). I will keep you updated. Should be here tomorrow.
The lug nut remover arrived as two different size socket. I placed the smaller one onto the lug nut but the thread in the socket would not grab onto the round lug nut. Basically I could not spin the socket fast enough without an impact wrench. So, I went down to a shop I trust and the mechanic put the socket on his impact wrench and spun the lug nut off. He did not charge me and the lug nut remover sockets cost about $24 with shipping. Problem fixed!! These things really work but you need an impact wrench if the lug nut is round and smooth like most of the security nuts sold at the local part stores. Happy Holidays.
