Won/lost to a Mazda mx-6

First real race and i wasn't prepared. In short the Mazda passed me and when i tried to pass him, he held his distance all the way from 60mph-120mph.

Second time we lined up i was in 3rd at 60mph. After redlining 3rd and using up most of fourth gear, the Mazda wanted none of me.

I ran a 15.07 in my 1988 626 turbo, which is identical to the MX-6 turbo but has 4 doors. Its rated at a BS 145 hp and 190 tq, dynos show them putting down about 155 to the wheels in stock trim, meaning they actually have about 185hp at the crank, in a 2650 lb car. They are faster than most stock 5 speed Maximas I see posting on here.

Was the one you raced an 88-92 style or 93-98 style? Fastest stock 93-98 style I've seen is 15.3 in the 1/4.

I have a 89 626 non turbo

NO power on the low-end but magically, my brother can almost keep up to the Maxima from 5-40 MPH. Not bad for an engine thats rated at 120HP. I think something is really wrong with the figures, but it's not that bad of a car...other than the clutch is slipping after 140,000 miles of abuse.

I think it was the 93-98 style. I guess it was a five speed because i saw the body lurch a couple of time's in the first run from 60-120mph. In the second run it was his turn to watch my car lurch as i slid it into third and then banged in fourth for the finale.

93-98 Probe GTs are the same as the MX-6s right? pretty much? i raced a probe GT at at 1/8m track and beat it every time(4 times). it would pull a few feet on take off then in about 60 ft i would start pulling and pull real slow. i ran consistant 9.6-.7s and he ran 10.0-.1s. he was running open headers and an intake. i had a custom catback and an intake at the time.

Well depending on which version he raced it could have had either a v6 or a v4. I drove the v4 once and it felt slow as anything. Did thios one look stock to you?

lol definitely gotta love the v4 engine design
My friend has a 4banger MX6. The GT's had black grilles and turbos to boot. At the track I've always beaten my friend, but he just got an electronic boost controller which lets him run a solid 14lbs of boost. When I get a new clutch I'll race him again and see how it goes. I have a feeling that I'll probably still beat him in the 1/4mi., but he defnitely has some pull in higher gears.
