4 gen maximas with 5 gen wheel owns...

What size tires should I put on a 17X7 5 gen 6 spoke for my 4 gen maxima?
I know a lot of people have the 5 gen's on their 4 gens, so I'm hoping someone can shed a little light on this. I want the overall tire to be the same size which means 25.3 inches and I know that a 235/45/17 will give me the same diameter of 25.3 inches total.

What I'm interested to know from those who have 5 gen 17X7's what tire did you get and did/do you have any issues with that? such as rubbing etc.

Thanks,

Tyler

i got the same wheels as gatsugansu 20th 5th gen wheels, but 45 series and i think 1 1/2 lower than him..and the only downside is i was told they were tight on my hub and if i went to the wrong shop and they were careless it could warp my axle with them trying to get them off..but idk he might have just been an ignorant person that doesn't know how to take a wheel off..i had taken it up to the shop up the road witch was well known and they never mentioned anything. good luck man they look nice when you get them on there..im thinkin about upgrading to 19's

Whatever tire they put on those rims for the 5th gen is what i used. 225/50/17. Its lowered on TEIN S-techs, and nothing rubs, scrapes, etc.

depending on how low you are planning to ride..

I had 215/50/17 - perfect
225/50/17 - rubbed a littdle..

215/50/17 looked more sporty
225/50/17 looked more beefy on a 4th gen..

yea i got 225/45/17 in the rear and 225/50/17 in the front..Id say the rear tires look a lot sportier but the fronts take up more fender room..with ur setup id go with either 215/50/17 or 225/45/17 in my opinion it looks better.

You never mentioned a drop, so you have nothing to worry about... Not to mention search and the wheel/tire subforum would've answered you question.

Just the info i was looking for, my buddy has a 2001 that i was hoping to get the rims from when he upgrades... some brand preferences would've been great. Think someone mentioned Dunlop direzza's...

sweet,

So basically, its looking like the 235/45's would have more grip. But the 225/45's would have a bit less rolling resistance and have an overall smaller diameter.

I know over all size is the same so I'm not worried about that. But I was more interested in rubbing during turns as the 235/45's are about 9.25 inches wide while the stock 215/55's are 8.5. I know that doesn't sound like much but what do I know. In such a case, I would not think the drop would have much of an effect unless the car was slammed as the depth of the wheel well should be more or less a constant (as much as I can tell when I have been under the car).

My friend have the Direzza's on his GTI, super grippy. Tirerack has them as the best performing summer tire they tested. And a ton of autox site members are all over them.

Thanks for all the responses, me thinks the 235's are the way to go.

Searching has and always will >me on this site :-/
