Scary brake problem at -25.

Hi,

those days, the temperature's low, around -25-30 celcius.
when the car's cold, I can brake normally like 2-3 times. And sometimes the brake pedal doesnt move a inches after 2 streets corners!! Like if something block the pedal. I pump hard 5-6 times to get the brake back.
= I cant stop the car! Hand brake's my last resort.

Oil's good, abs's off.

Can the oil freeze? Actually is very dangerous...

tips.?

Thanks

Sounds like you NEED a new master cylinder.

I think you should take it to a good shop and let them sort it out. No fooling around with troubles like this.

Look directly under neat the master cylinder to see if it is wet. If not it may be leaking internally. It is deffinatly a master cylinder and something you need fixed asap. If the fluid is fine then it is prolly leaking internally. Get it fixed!

The fluid also prob has moisture in it so the cold weather is causing the moisture to freeze. Make sure you use a good synthetic fluid when you replace/repair the master cyl

Kevlo makes a good point. I've had a similar thing happen over two years ago. I put my car in gear and pull out of my driveway. As soon as i go for the brake it became hard as a rock and i'd barely stop. It would be okay after that, but scary nonetheless. The problem went away after a complete brake system flush. Seeing how brake fluid is hydroscopic and absorbs moisture. It'd only make sense that if the brake fluid hasn't been flushed for too long, the acumulated moisture can freeze.

Nope, because I can use it 2-3 times before the block.

It's like if the car's off and you use your brake pedal. It's comming harder to push it, until you reach the max pression.

The master cylinder doenst work even if the engine's on.

I'll make a check up, oil change and bleed.

Thanks
