Seats

I was just wondering how you guys feel about the 4th gen seats. Maybe its the way I sit, but after only about 2 hours, my whole body starts to hurt, especially my butt. Do you feel the same way, or is it cause I sit in an uncomfortable poistion?

i agree on this.... I used to think my 3rd gen seats sucked. But they were way better, at least my back didn't hurt. In the 4th gen, any drive over 2 hours and my lower back starts to hurt. Shorter drivers are okay, but after long drives, I am in pain. the seats back any support in the lower back part.. I'm looking forward to seeing what Dave B will do with the Prelude seats....

When I got my Maxima I had to get used to the seats, but after that I love them.....

I dont think so. I have leather and it seems even harder than the cloth.

the seats in my car are far more comfortable on longer drives than my '00 3.2TL. In that car, my lower back kills after a long drive, or a day of running errands.

That's pretty weird, i have the leather seats, and i start to hurt almost exactly after 2 hours of driving, especially in the butt area as well

You guys that are uncomfortable, maybe it is just your lumbr seting. Have you tried changing the handle on the side to see if any way feels better than others?

Years before I bought my 4th gen, I read that the seats were one of the few complaints Consumer Reports had about the car.

You're not alone.

my 4th gen cloth seats are not as comfortable as my 2000 Altima cloth seats. Altima is much better. Weird..

One of the reasons I'm getting a CL-S is its sport seats. The seat is taking a shape of your body, not the other way around. There's so much lateral support, so if you like taking corners hard you're not going to slide left and right in your seat.

I don't fatigue much in my seats, but I do find they don't have too much side support. I read once on the Maxima newsgroup how one guy took his seats out, took 'em apart, and shaved some material from the center padding of the seat, and then put them back in. He said the seats were 100% more supportive in corners. That mod let his back sit further into the seat, making the sides more supportive. I hope to do that. Maybe make it a summer project.

The leather seats in my 1998 I-30 blow. The factory leather is way too stiff and there is no lateral support for when I go thru the twisties. Even after 70K miles and countless leather treats. It's almost as bad as Mercedes leather . The best factory leather I have ever touched, seen and SMELLED is from Jaguar. The smell of the hides are to die for. And the connolly leather is buttery soft. I wish the japanese manufactures can learn a lesson from those Brits.

The seats on my TL are much softer and more comfortable, plus when my back hurts, I can crank up the heater .

The best seats I have, are a pair of aftermarket Recaro's that I would love to put in, but I can't . I would lose the power functions and the side airbag.

Yeah, I figured I want something more luxurious than a Maxima for the same money. Plus I always wanted a coupe, just hope they will get a 6-speed by next spring.

I can't say I have this problem. I am very comfortable. I sit with the seat slid forward a little and the lumbar all the way pressed into my back. Then lean the back tilted back at a little angle. Try different combinations and see if something different works for you.

No you don't. Not stock leather anyhow. The leather in my 97 SE is like 60 grit sandpaper. Especially on the sides of the passenger seat and the whole back seat.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

IMHO, I can def say the stock 4th gen bucket seats have terrible lumbar & lateral support.

Its time to stick some nice adj. racing seats in.

If you have the 8-way power seat controls, like me, those back problems just disappear. If your legs hurt try some squats and Tea-Bo.

My trouble with the seat is that there isn't enough legroom. That, and the front edge of the cushion does not go down far enough for comfort. The seat kind of cuts into the backs of my thighs. I posted a thread a while ago about fabricating some custom brackets that would allow mounting the seat father back; I haven't done any additional work on that yet.

I feel OK with my Max's cloth power seats. But my 94 Altima cloth manual seats is a little better, thicker and feels more solid. Max's power seat control is too far back. I looked around and though about moving the control forward... seems no easy way, forget it.

hey, just remembered something that bothers me most....

I am 6'0-6'1 in height..... When I sit in the seat, my right leg always leans against the dashboard part near the shifter(just to the left of it). And after sometime of driving my leg kinda hurts from leaning against that spot, especially being that I move the leg from gas to brake every 15 seconds in this NYC traffic...... I am going to buy a small pillow and attach it there. That actually bothers me more...

How badass do these seats look in Maxima They're out of a 96 VTEC Prelude. No more knees on the dash, no more sliding out of the seat in turns. Very yummy.

They are VERY badass! How much did it cost for the entire job to get done? Where did you get the seats?

The power/leather seats on my 95 max hurrts my right butt cheak after a 45+ minute ride. I hate going for long rides because of it.

Now my 98 I30T with perforated leather seats are very comfortable! It seems they have a lot more lower back support and the seats are just flufier.
