How to wire a Remote Start

How to Wire Remote Start

Difficulty level: can be a paint in the ***

Best Location For Remote Start Module: on top of the ECU (behind the climate controls)

1. Take apart the steering column so you can access the ignition.

2. Remove the harness from any clips or electrical tape so you can see the wires.

3. Strip the wires and then connect everything (once everything works solder them).

4. The Maxima requires 2 starter wires, so if your remote start has only one you have to create a relay.

(DO NOT CONNECT THE TWO STARTER WIRES TOGETHER DIRECTLY IT CAN FRY YOUR ECU)

Notes:

You have to have the tach wire connected and you have to teach the remote start the tach.

In your picture of the soldered wired, where did the yellow attached to the black/yellow wire come from?

Looks like the Y is just tapped into the B/Y, not intercepting it (as you would with a remote start unit that has starter interrupt).

With a 5 speed will i need to bypass the clutch switch?
Also i found that i can set this unit up for a second starter output, will this work instead of the relay?
One other question i had is there is a EXT. Trigger input, would this be used for say a neutral safety switch? I didn't find any other wire that was for a safety switch of any kind.

The pdf of the wiring diagram is here: http://www.directeddealers.com/manua...100_080528.pdf

Thanks, Jake

Yes, you'll need to bypass the clutch switch. Yes, if it has two starter outputs, that'll work just fine.

I believe the external trigger input is to be able to activate the remote start, for example with the stock remote.

The hood switch or ground wire can be used for a neutral safety switch, both of them will work.

I've now got everything hooked up and taught it tach. I can start the car with the key and get i into reservation mode it stays running like it is supposed to. When i go to remote start it the parking lights just flash on for a few seconds then back off and nothing happens. I lookd in the fsm and it says the tach signal should be around 5vac or so when idling. I only have about 2.9vac and it doesnt change when revving, i have checked it in two places with the same result. Could this be my problem or do i just have a crappy meter that cant read the tach signal?

The tach signal doesn't matter until after it's cranked.

Have you checked the diagnostic codes to see why it didn't remote start? What model unit are you using?

Handbrake wire

Does anyone know what color the handbrake wire is and where I can access it easily on a 95 MAX SE MT?

Left side kickpanel, connectors M4/B1, Y.

Or pin 4 of connector M24, Y.

Alternatively, just follow the harness from the parking brake switch...

Look through EL, it shows you where everything is.

I am using an Autostart brand AS-2272. Here is the install pdf: http://www.directeddealers.com/manua...100_080707.pdf, near the bottom is the troubleshooting list for the parking light flashes. I get the unit into reservation mode correctly but when i hit the button to remote start it just flashes the parking lights once and does nothing else. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Thank you pmohr for the help and Infowire for the nice write up.

After a few nights freezing in the cold figuring out where all those wires goes I finally managed to get everything connected! (Thought about quitting a few times but managed to get it done)

The only thing that is left and still doesn't work is my trunk release.
I've connected the (-) Trunk release output to a relay and to the purple yellow wire at the trunk release switch but nothing happens when I activate it.

Here's how I connected it
86 -> Constant 12v from ignition
87 -> Ground
85 -> Remote starter (-) Trunk release wire
30 -> Purple yellow wire
87a -> Not connected

Did I messed up something? If the connections are correct what voltage should I be getting from 85 and from 30 when I activate the trunk release?

Thanks
