How to wire a Remote Start

How to Wire Remote Start

Difficulty level: can be a paint in the ***

TOOLS NEEDED: Wire Strippers, Scissors, Zip Ties, Extra Wire, Good Lighting, 10mm Ratchet, Philips Screw Driver, Soldering Gun & Solder, Electrical Tape

Best Location For Remote Start Module: on top of the ECU (behind the climate controls)

1. Take apart the steering column so you can access the ignition & the center console.

a) Start by removing the Fuse box lid, the there's two Philips screws on the bottom of that plastic panel.
b) Then remove the metal plate that's 2 screws as well.
c) Then 6 Screws from the bottom of the steering wheel plastic cover then it just pops off.

2. Remove the harness from any clips or electrical tape so you can see the wires.

3. Strip the wires and then connect everything (once everything works solder them and use electrical tape).

4. The Maxima requires 2 starter wires, so if your remote start has only one you have to create a relay.

Notes:

You have to have the tach wire connected and you have to teach the remote start the tach.

The hardest Part is to Wire the Door Lock Unlock and the Trunk (12V+) needs a relay, not to mention putting 3 wires through the drivers door is fun. The Parking lights are easy they are located in the steering column.

Why three wires into the driver's side door? All you need is the two for door lock/unlock. The trunk trigger can be had inside, from the BCM.

Also IIRC the BCM has a tach signal, if not you can get it between the ECU and the cluster at one of the two connectors coming off of the engine harness (where it passes by the BCM, right before it wraps around the ECU).

Also the trunk release isn't just a positive trigger. It is reverse polarity, so you'll have to know how to properly use a relay to hook that up.

Trunk trigger can also be found on the driverside running board in the harness going toward the rear of the car.

In that same harness, you can get trunk trigger(-), trunk release(reverse polarity), door trigger(-), parking lights (+), and brake (+).

yeah the trunk release was fun, i used a relay and i just taped into a 12 volt on the unlock remote and just grounded to the door. I only ran 3 wires through the door. I don't like taping into wires by the ECU it just seem like a bad idea to me. I can prob show a diagram of the trunk opener if anyone needs it.

Yea...you did it in a way that works, but you have to be mindful of where you get your 12volt feeds from in the door. There are a few sensitive pieces of equipment to break in there. Such as the main driver window switch...that has control over all 4 windows, and locks, and door courtesy light.
