Wheel Bearing problem... i think.

I get a grinding noise coming from front driver side. The grinding noise stops when i turn the steering wheel to the right. I took the wheel apart took out part of the bearing out, the little plastic piece holding the ***** is broken, there is sings of debree inside, looks like a piece of metal just started grinding things. At any rate i got the haynes manual and cant find anything bout the wheel bearing/hub replacement. Does anyone have any diagrams or advice ? I need to fix asap. The part at advanced parts is 35 bucks. I just need to be sure that what im buying will fix the problem.

As long as ur hub isn't damaged, then bearing can be replaced. In my case, the new bearing would not fit on the original hub, so I had to get a new hub and get the new bearing pressed on. I'm still not convinced that the guy who did it did a good job, but I can't tell b/c of the tranny whine from the input shaft bearing...
If you have tools, you can get the hub off yourself.

I will be replacing both of my front wheel bearings on saturday. I can make a write up for you, if you can wait that long. Only thing you may need is take the hub to a shop and have them press the old one out and press the new one on.. I will have the write-up online on saturday night for you.

Oh yea. also jack the front wheels up and spin the wheel with it in neutral and check to see if it spins freely and if you can hear a noise. I also like to grab the wheel at 3 O'clock and 9 O'clock and turn it left to right gently and see if there is any play.

Won't always work. I had no play in mine but the hub was bad.
Here's the old one.
The new one.

Check the hub. If the bearing still needs to be pressed on the hub it is probably still OK. When I did mine I just removed the Knuckle and found a shop that would press out and in. Which I had to replace the hub. They are pricey, I had to go to the dealer around $200. You may be able to get em cheaper somewhere else, I had a time crunch.

good luck

I suspect I have a bad front wheel bearing but am concerned that I will also need a hub. I have heard both sides on the org, some say hub rarely needs changing other are like you. I don't know what to think.

Is it better to change both bearing and hub so less hassle in the end? Does changing both make the job easier, can you just have someone press the bearing on the hub and install anytime you want instead of having to run the hub to the auto parts store to get the bearing pressed on?

I've had a kind of woooo woooo noise for about a year and a half but just can't tell if it's the bearing or not. Wheel does not have play when grasped at 3-9 PM, that would be too easy.

Could very well be, yes.

And no need for hijacking, there's a newbie thread right on the front page.

Hmm i've never seen an A32 rear wheel bearing go bad. I've seen a B15 rear wheel bearing go bad, pretty easy to replace on those. They just bolt in.
