I believe they're about the same length, but I don't know about the attachment points.

Different PNs from Nissan and in the aftermarket, so most likely they attach to the hood/body differently.

Why do you want OEM's? You can get aftermarkets as well.

Aftermarkets don't work in the cold I've heard and it's cold here... quite cold. so.
Also, some don't even hold the hood up to begin with I'm told. So. Rather take used OEM's then low quality cheapies...

That's a very broad statement, that no aftermarket hood struts will work in the cold.

Why not just new OEM ones, then?

I'm sure they work in the cold. You have any true experience with them? If your not satisfied with them then why not get brand new OEM's over used 1's?

Ebay hood struts

I guess the old ones couldn't keep it up any more, Maybe they need some viagra.

I just ordered some cheap replacement hood struts for my 96 gle from ebay for $28 shipped. Once I get them, I'll let you know how they work in the cold. Feb if F'ing freezing in MD, although I am sure it's not Canada cold.

because of price.
i just hear and after reading lots of the topics on hood struts on the .org many people who buy the replacement OEMs for cheap end up not being very satisfied for a number of reasons, many said that they don't work after 6 months to a year. whereas OEM's, around 8 years... depending where you live and how often you open your hood, and i dont want to waste my money as I dont have much. lol. I suppose if i can't wait any longer I'll just have to try the Stabilus brand...

i live in northern minnesota....one of the coldest regions in the country...my hood struts were shot when i got my car 4 years ago. got new OEM ones and i think they lasted 2-3 months and they wouldnt hold the hood up anymore. personally i think its just a poor design....the angle the hood goes to requires those struts to hold a lot of weight! a prop rod woulda worked just fine in my book

Ebay hood struts do work. I'm not sure if they will fit perfectly, but a friend of mine always buys cheap stuff from ebay. Most likely, it will go out before OEM ones, but there cheaper, and if you use them right and keep the nice and clean, they might last longer.

think i might upgrade to a metal bat soon. the plastic one is too short and wont open the hood enough for some things.

Alot of times i just clamp a pair of vice grips to the strut to keep it open.. that works pretty good.

Ebay Hood Strut review.

Ok, I bought these off of ebay, for $28.00 shipped:

95 96 97 98 99 Nissan Maxima Hood Shock Strut Supports

Brand New Sachs 2 Part # SG325009

I just installed them, they work, but they're not real good. I would not recommend purchasing them.

Two issues:
1) They don't really feel like they provide quite enough lift. I don't get that satisfying 'pop' when you hit the hood latch.
2) During the install, I had to 'push' the struts to get them to line up right. I am concerned about the ball joint at the end of the struts holding up.

Hope this helps someone else!

Thanks for your post. I'm in need of hood struts and was thinking about ebay struts but after reading posts where people say they fail really fast I think I'll have to find oem struts somewhere.

They should fit, I mounted mine like the 5th gens(upsidedown compared to stock 4th gen) and it did not make a difference(POS aftermarket ones)

Robsst thanks for your post. Confirmed what I had thought already and I'm glad I hadn't bought the ebay struts.

So I'm still looking for OEM's if anyone has! Pm me.
