key wont go in lock of door, what options?

My key will not go into my lock on the driver side door, its not to big of a deal but is there an easy fix? Ive never fixed a lock on a door before so i do not know my options or the difficulty involved in switching out a lock. Would i have to get a new key just for that lock? Or do i just say screw it and keep unlocking from the passenger side?

THanks for the help

It isn't hard to do, but why will it not go in? I only see 2 ways it wouldn't; 1) your lock is broken or 2) you have the wrong key for that lock.

its the right key, I bought the car like that and to me it seems as if someone tried to pick the lock and it broke. Will i have to get a specific lock to be able to mate with the key that i already have?

not sure about the locks if they're faced differntly on the passenger side than the drier side. Maybe take it apart and see if the same. Then swap the passenger side lock to the driver side and vice versa. Otherwise, get an alarm with keyless entry. But yea, i dont think they can create a lock for you.

Go to the stealership and see what they suggest. You might have to order a new set.

If the key won't physically enter the lock, there has to be some sort of obstruction, either foreign matter, a pin seized all the way down, etc.

Have you tried looking inside the plug to see what's keeping the key from entering?

i havent actually looked at it, its been way to cold in NY lately, im waiting for a nice day, like i said before, if its not some easy fix i'll probably just leave it, im not to concerned about it, i just hate the fact that every day i go to the driver side to unlock the door and i cant, lol, but if i have to get in the habit of going to the passenger side than i will

A locksmith will be able to fix it relatively easily

Some dbag decided to put a stick in my driver side door, it broke off and I haven't been able to open it for about 2 years now lol. And my keyless entry won't work even though I've reset it multiple times. I called a locksmith and he couldn't do anything about it.. You could try taking an air can and blowing it inside see if it breaks it lose. I tried it and it blew some of it out but there is quite a big piece in there.

You might want to try blowing it out with compressed air. If not, their are also graphite pens that you can get at Home Depot that you squeeze into the lock and it will help lubricate the works. Good Luck!
