OBDII -- Consult / What's New?
OBDII -- Consult / What's New?
Is there an OBDII scanner worth buying for a 1998 Max?
And did anyone come up with a useful Consult emulator (that operates from a laptop)?
I have searched for recent news on these questions, but most of the stuff I found seems to be out of date.
Thanks.

I just have one of those cheap 30 dollar Chinese ELMscan 327 OBD2 to USB adapters from Ebay and it works alright. Every now and then it crashes and I lose my connection to the ECU, but it gets the job done albeit a bit slowly (it only reads about 3 or 4 parameters a second, but I tried it on a newer car and it read 20, so I assume that is a limitation of the OBD2 bus on our 4th gens).

dude...post #9: http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...solidated.html
i'll give you a good deal and it reads a **** ton of parameters. data logging doesn't work - loses connection to the ecu - due to an old design or my weak laptop.

I want a reader if all we can do is read from the 1998 link, and I want something more if there is any more we can do.
Other than mortgaging my house to buy an authentic Consult, what's the current best alternative that provides good functionality at reasonably low cost?
I am not trying to hypertune the car; just to diagnose problems, make reasonable adjustments (if possible) to basic systems, and and keep it running smoothly for the rest of my life -- assuming I am able to get it back on the road again, of course.
Best wishes.

download the software i'm running with my cable from:
www.eformance.info/consult1209.zip
install and open, close the "main menu" and click "view" then "engine log" and it'll show you preset parameters you can monitor - there's more to choose from - also works as a code reader etc.
i'll give it away for $50 shipped - just for you
