PLEASE help me...
I just replaced my starter (which was quite fun thanks to the funky factory intake) and everything works beautifully EXCEPT, the tranny doesn't respond to the overdrive button or shifting into 2nd, or 1st and my check engine klight is on... Now, I had a friend tell me I probably just need to reset the check engine light since I replaced a part, but what about the tranny? Can someone tell me which connection it might have to do with under the hood. I had to unplug several harnesses to get to the starter. I swear I plugged them all back in, but if someone could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it... Thanks
oh, I have a 96 Infiniti I30, 3.0L auto...

Re: There are about 4 tranny harness near the starter area.
i was just curious as to what kind of starter you replaced the OEM one with. I hear a dragging noise every time i start up my car, and i am pretty sure its the starter. I think its just another corner nissan cut and screwed us with because a guy i work with has the exact same problem when starting his max.
anyway, back to my question.. what brand starter did you purchase? Bosch? Just curious...

I guess I missed one somewhere then.... any thoughts on the CEL? I geuss I'll just try resetting it for now. thanks for the reply.
maxipadman, from what I have read up the early 4th Gen I30's and Max's came with an 8-tooth starter that very frequently runs into this problem. the problem you described is exactly why I replaced mine. I did replace it with I think either a Bosch or Hitatchi... one of those two. I got a really good deal on it and everything works great now. Oh and Nissan went to a 10-tooth starter later on to fix this problem (as is the starter I have on now) but didn't bother to replace the 100's of 8-tooths they put on our early cars... hope that helps..
