ABS check light-high pitched whirring from dash
After doing an org search but before looking through my Haynes and Nissan manuals, I thought I'd run this one by you guys. To save myself some time tracking down the problem I'm wondering if someone has also experienced this specific problem.
A few days ago I started hearing a faint but irritating high pitched <whirring> sound that seems to be coming from behind the dash near the clock ,initially occurring when the car was at operating temperature and the brake pedal or handbrake were applied, but subsequently at all times, and perhaps even slightly quieter when the brakes are applied. The ABS light started coming on intermittently at some point during this time, and is now on constantly. Brake fluid level is fine.
As far as I know there are no ABS system components at the location the sound seems to be coming from, or I may just be out to lunch and it's coming from the actuator assembly/pump under the hood, but the sound seems louder from inside the car. My Maxima is a 99 5 speed.
Have you been there and done that?
Thanks

NJ, you were bang on. The sound I was hearing was from the radio, but the problem ended up being a worn out battery!! A couple of days after my post
the car would barely turn over, and after installing a new battery, no more noises. The ABS light still comes on intermittently and I'm guessing ur right-probably a bad sensor. I'll pull the codes one of these days. For reference, the other symptoms prior to the no-start were poor gas mileage, speakers/radio cutting in and out and rev dependent headlight intensity-which had me thinking my rebuilt alternator was faulty.
