3.0l to 2.5l swap

I just searched threads pertaining to the 2.5l jdm engine and us 3.0l eng. My question is can the 2.5l be interchanged with the 3.0l with no mods with ecu timing or vacuum sytems? The thread mentioned this but did not finish with the full info on the swap?

Why would you want to swap in a VQ25? Just to be unique?

If I were to do it, it would be to be unique. Otherwise it's pointless.

Build and boost the crap outta the 2.5 and do it. heheheh It would be different for sure. You'll likely need to do some 'modding' to get it all in correctly.

2.5 L @ say .... 35 lbs boost! Oh yea!

Considering he's from Memphis, I highly doubt that he's got a VQ25 'sitting around'. Especially if he has no idea what to do for a swap.

I asked because there is a 96 max with one in it at a junk yard considering the engine is still good with 75000 for $200 why not? Googling the 2.5l japanese version it reads that it can be done with no modding or switch out of sensors. I would only lose a total of 10hp but also there are mods that I can do that 2.5l can get that would kick a 3.0l _ss the ratios are nearly the same but the 2.5l is considered the racing version. Now this is base off a couple of searches I've done so far. M-town baby!

...you sure about that? The chances of finding a VQ25 in a junkyard (in a maxima) in the US are extremely slim.

You should be able to run it with the stock VQ30 ECU, AFAIK.

Is this a local yard to you, where you've seen it?

yes at a local junkyard I had to look at it myself but the engine code is a 2.5l. I also looked on ebay and there is a seller who is selling that same engine for about $500.

Indeed. Would be interesting to see.

OP: What engine code did you read? The one on the firewall, the plastic coilpack cover?

Most likely scenaro - Someone did a MEVI conversion and imported JDM MEVI from a 2.5litre car and use the 2.5 coilpack cover

I've had the 2.5l and 3.0l both with factory MEVI - Obviously 3litre is better

Displacement, cc 2495
Engine model VQ25DE
Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 190 ps (139.75 kw) / 6400 rpm

Displacement, cc 2987
Engine model VQ30DE
Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 220 ps (161.81 kw) / 6400 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 28.5 kg*m (279.49 N*m) / 4400 rpm

VQ30 is 2988cc.

So the plate on the firewall read VQ25DE?

Either it's a Cefiro, or someone's been swapping out identification plates...and 99% of people aren't going to put a JDM plate on their car just to have it read VQ25DE.

Man, I bet if you found a VQ25 in the US, it's probably the only one here.

The VQ25 was available in the A32/A33 Cefiro and J32 Teana, FWD.

Correct. A32 onwards (up until it switched to the Teana (2003 I think)), theyre identical cars, slightly different trim, and the Cefiro had VQ20DE/VQ25DE's (towards later years, more so the A33s, 30DE-K and 35DE were optional)

OP: Why do you want to downgrade 500cc?
Boost it if that's your plan.

Hasnt this already been covered before? I know Ive seen pics and discussion of VQ25DE on this forum more than once before.

I was thinking of the y33 cedric. I didn't know about the J32 Teana and for some reason I forgot about the cefiro.

Indeed, the Y33 Leopard/Y33 Cedric have it as an option, in RWD.

Best swap ever.

Better yet, why not swap in a KA24E? Or maybe a D16. That would be mad unique yo.
