Sound from the first gear.

i have that too if its what i think you are talking about. its more of a weeeeee. a nissan tech told me it was "high end gear whine" - when my friends hear it, they think something is wrong with it. but i think its normal, drivability is fine.

My personal favorite is the "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhh" sound that goes from high-pitched to lower to gone as the car slows almost to a stop, and then to a stop. A noise accentuated at drive-thru windows that my friends like to make note of

Re: Sound from the first gear.
I went from a Accord to a 98 5-speed max, so this sound freaked me out..took it to a speed shop. They said it was normal.. a steeply cut 1st gear is my best reason. I hate it, but I am going to rest soundly after I found it was nothing like the sound of the bearing problem in nissans. If anyone would like to correct me feel free.

If you guys are talking about gear whine on yor 5 speeds, that's a symptom. My car whines in the 1st 3 gears. My bearings are shot. Getting a used tranny put in this week. For those of with with whine in only 1st gear, It looks like it's starting.
That's the main flaw of 4th gen 5 speeds.

It's not normal. It's Nissan's crappy stock clutch. The noise goes away when you replace it.
