5-speed reverse light sensor

I have to wiggle the stick around in reverse to get the reverse lights to turn on. Once I start going, the stick shifts a bit and the lights turn off. Whatever sensor is there, its not touching. I'll probably look at it tomorrow during the day, but while Im in for the night, anyone have this problem? what was the problem? solution? ......

thanks

Mine does the same, never really worried about it.

Likely just worn contacts on the reverse/neutral position sensor, a replacement sensor should fix the problem.

32005-17E12, $29.55 each at Courtesy

Same switch / sensor at Autozone is only $19.95

Mine does the same thing, must be a 4th gen 5spd thing. I wired in a toggle switch for ~$0.90 for the switch / ~$1.50 for wire .... = a lot less than either Courtesy or the Zone. hehehehe

$26.99 around here, and it's never in stock, unlike the dealer.

I went through the exact same problem, only I've run out of wiggle room and my lights won't come on at all now. Is it difficult to replace the switch?

Its a 10mm on the bottom of the transmission, but you have to drain the gear oil first. Not very difficult but kinda a PITA.

Yep, simple to change. Except, of course, for having to remove and replace the fluid. It would be a good chance to change the gear oil, however, especially if it's due.

I couldn't loosen my drain plug when I switched to synthetic a while ago. So I just drained the old fluid through the switch. I ordered and bought a new one just in case I broke the old switch taking it out. But it popped out just fine and the original O-ring (with only 207K miles on it) sealed perfectly. So I returned the unneeded switch I had bought.
