How would you go about fixing this ?

My rear rocker panels on both sides look like this , in the winter it was okay because the snow / salt covered it...now I just spray painted over it to hide it.

Im guessing Im gonna have to cut both off and chop them off another maxima to replace them....is that the best route?

I have no clue what a decent price range would be to do this

the welding / grinding / painting i can do but alas I only have all the paint stuff no other tools so I have to bring it to a shop

what price range do you guys think is fair , because I don't wanna get
screwed.

I'd cut out everything between the red dots

Yes, you will have to cut and reweld a new piece on. Then sand, bondo and blend the paint

Dunno about the parts, but the labor shouldn't be more than a couple of 100 bucks.

I am sure Tom(njmax...) will chime in, he works/worked at a body shop

A couple 100 bucks easily, especially if it's on both sides. Most body shops don't even want to touch rust repair. Find a buddy with a garage that can do some cutting and welding for you. Cut out the old sections, weld in the new sections and then bring it to a body shop to do the finish work for you. The section your looking at is called the dog leg, part of the qtr usually and it looks like your rust runs into the rocker a bit too. It might still be available new.

I had to have this done to pass an MVI, in the winter so I couldn't do any myself. To replace 1 front fender both rockers and quarters ( cause they would let exhaust into trunk/pass area, and paint all at MAACO, cost about $2000 Can$ - about$1800 US$. -Just noticed you're in TO, hope the MVIs there are gentler than here in NS. They're very strict about this stuff - bondo isn't allowed if it relates to exhaust gasses. That said, MVI's are mints for Repair shops and the like - 10 days to repair of off the road - and they stick a RED Inspection sticker on the windshield when you First Fail.
If you can get away with less, and can seal it well, go for it... but if you sit around idling a lot, be careful.

Yeah but just because you were able to cover up the issue for free doesnt mean thats the correct way to do it, if you care for you car any that it is.
So how did you get rid of the actual rust?

I cut out the rust and ground down as much as possible to try to completely eliminate the rust. I know it will probably be back in about 2 years. But i love my baby and next time it will be done the right way.

there is a paint that ive used on older car rebuilds called POR - 15. someone had told me about it and you just paint on a few coats and it isolates the rust. i tried it out and it really worked. after that you can bondo it up and paint it.
