can I use a 1996 ecm with my 1999?

Can ecu's just die on their own after a while?
Is a possible reasoning for a short in the ecu a faulty IACV? I read it in the Hynes manual that it should have around 30 ohms resistance between all the pairs of the pins, IE:
Checking between pins 1&2=30 ohms, 2&3=30ohms, 3&4=30 ohms, 4&5=30 ohms, and 5&6=30 ohms.
I measured 30 ohms on all pairs, except at pair 3&4, where you need to measure diagonally...there I read overload or infinite resistance. Can anyone test theirs and see?
here is a crappy diagram of it, and the two lower case L's are there to represent the fastening clip..

I was just using my iacv as a example. I wasnt aiming towards your iacv may have been faulty or what ever. My case was human error on my behalf. By all means i was not relating it to your situation

You mean beyond all of the specs listed in the FSM?
You're not supposed to check between 3 and 4:

Thanks, but duuuudde....my Haynes told me to check all pairs in consecutive order...
I'll do what this one says also then. I just want to find out what the hell may have caused it to fry. I have another REF on the way so I'll try that first then go from there.
BTW, could I just plug the ECU in the harness without actually having to stuff it back into the bracket under the center console, or does it rely on the bracket to ground it?

So maybe it wasnt my fault that it fried my ECU x2. I know that one of the pins was bent a little bit but im sure it still went into my 4th gen harness. And i did have the coolant logs hooked up as well. hmmmmmmm intresting.
Anyways...... To me its kind of weird that you are throwing a code for both CKPS's I would almost suspect the ground that hooks up to your lower manifold are in bad shape. But on the flipside it still wouldnt explain the other weird code that you have. But if you had somekind of smoke inside your cabin that would make me suspect that something is shorting out.
Have you recently done any kind of wiring or modification to anything???

no wiring mod...only thing I did about 2 months ago, and the last thing I did, was put the phenolic spacers on..Now I wonder if I might have broken a wire on the engine harness because I had to bend it out of the way?
