Open ended Engine vacuum line- normal?

1999 engine - I had the throttle body cleaned by a good repair shop. At home here I looked under the hood and noticed (what may have existed before the repair) an open ended vacuum line. It is between the positive post on the battery, and the battery side of the front valve cover.

What is unusual about it is that the open end of the hose is formed in a hook, or short 90 degree turn of about one inch. looks made that way.
Is this normal? the line runs from the open hook end back toward the valve cover then goes down into the engine area.

It's normal. Did you actually follow it down? It's a trans breather hose.

FWIW this has come up time and time again, if you search 'open vacuum hose' or similar, you'll get a lot of results of people asking this question.

A breather hose for the 'vacuum system'? All that would be is a giant vac leak.
