Trust me bypass it and remove the 1 uim mounting bracket on that side also.i ran into the issue that everytime i seated the uim that damn U shaped hose would find its way between the back of the manifold and the VC causing the uim not to sit correctly.after the 3rd time DELETE happened!

I'm with ya! I adapted the mounting brackets (picture below) so the bracket bolts can be pre-mounted into the UIM. Now that I don't need to wrestle with the coolant hose, the UIM can be dropped into the slots and on the intake runner with minimal effort.

No need for the bracket after I removed it and added a 1ft hose back there. Now the UIM comes to me when I need it off. Haven't had to take it off in 3 years.

I think that's a good Idea! keeps that UIM and LIM unified and possibly increases the gasket life.... I'll do the same or make me one out of steel tubing.....

Hi guys I finally removed Upper Intake Manifold for 2hours. Been struggle with the hose behind the manifold cuz hard to access there. I took it out and saw some oil in the manifold (I forgot to take picture) I am not sure if its normal or not so I took throttle body and saw oil on it too. Is it normal?

EGR feeding gunk into intake

I believe the source for the oily build up is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. Since you have it apart, it is probably a good idea to clean out the throttle body with a good throttle body cleaner. I used the Wurth product but I think there are several good ones on the market. I also flushed the intake manifold itself in my parts washer. It wasn't sparkly clean but it was certainly cleaner when I was done.

It's actually from the PCV valve, as oil vapors pass through the system. Install a proper catch can, and this oil build-up would stop.

I believe The Wizard is correct about the PCV contributing to this as well. I know when I did this work to my car there was a lot of oily looking crude in the EGR tube bolted into the intake manifold.
