bose aux input questions (i searched)

first off i got a 99 with bose. from what i understand if your cd player still works you can simply make a silent cd, play it and the aux will be activated without having a switch of some sort? or do i still need a switch to activate the aux?

Sound scary?

You can avoid the "AUX-ON Signal Input" switch completely if your CD player still works (a few do) and you know how to burn a silent CD. Record about 75 minutes of silence, then burn it to a CD. Play the CD in your Bose and its AUX IN will be activated. I tried it and it works.

taken from that thread. i already read the how to. has anyone done it that way?

Alright since no one wants to help, I'll chime in. I do not have a picture of the solder joints on my board. Call me lazy. From what I remember though, the signal names were on the solder mask. Made it really easy.

Here's the hard part. The signals at the inputs of the Bose are balanced (differential) signals. This means that the L- and R- you see are not really ground. Consider this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Differential_signaling

The important part is that on the + signal you have a pretty much normal audio signal. On the - signal, you have the EXACT INVERSE. So to get the right amount of signal out of you iPod, you have to build a single ended to differential signal converter.

So what have I done? Well I drew a circuit with op-amps to convert the signal, but have not built it yet (refer to above). Right now I have it hooked up so that L+ goes to the left channel, R+ goes to the right channel, and L- and R- go to ground. If you are still following along, this means that only half the signal is getting to my Bose unit.

If I could find the paper with the circuit drawn on it, I could do a CAD drawing, and post it if you are interested in trying to build that circuit. It's not overly hard, probably 15 or so components, maybe less.

So I don't know what you want to do, but I can tell you I wish I would have built the level converter in the first place, because I wish it was louder.

I just did this mod, took a guess and just wired up everything to the back of the HU, it works perfectly! I get decent volume out of hte Ipod. THe crappy *** bose HU's tape or CD no longer work and the since the antenna is busted radio reception is sh*t too, so essentially with this mod I actually have a usable radio again. I would have been content with the TAPE adapter thing if it still worked, but this is perfect. I had D-sub terminals and a crimper I used to attache everything to the CD changer Plug

Glad it worked out for you. If you install a switch between the Aux-On terminal and Rx (think its Rx, it just really needs to be tied high though, and since a serial line is high when idle, this works), you can control when the Bose is in Aux In mode and when its operating normally.
