I recommend aiming your gheadlights down evenly, so that the bulk of the light output is below the trunkline of a vehicle in front of you. There is always going to be stray glare, but you can keep it to a minimum this way!
Are retrofits the correct/best way to put HIDs in your ride, cosmetically/functionally? Yes.
Do you HAVE to retrofit in order to install HIDs in your headlights? No.
Are mine retrofitted? No.
Do I care what anyone thinks about it? NO.
I do plan to retrofit them in the future. I also plan to do LED tails, turns, and corners.
For your headlights, you need a 9004 Retrofit kit. For your fogs, you need a H3mini Retrofit kit. If you want to keep the functionality of your HI-beams, you will need a BI-Xenon kit. If lows are good enough for you, a single kit will do.
8000K=blue like mine. 10000K=darker blue. 3000K=yellow for fogs. 6000K=lighter than mine (almost white). 4300K=WHITE.

Don't let all the .org hard-asses get to you.. some people have nothing better to do! lol

I see that you are local, so PM sent..

Call me an ******* but anyone driving behind me with those lights usually get me behind them with high beams. What are they gonna do? Flash me? Only option is to shoot me but it is still worth the risk. I call it giving others a taste of your own medicine. I can usually see the beam reflecting off of their side mirrors to their faces, tinted or not ROFL.

believe it or not, DJ420's lights aren't that bad. Trust me, I see him in my rear view often I have the 9007 mod and I'm constantly getting beamed by oncoming drivers. I think mine produce more glare than his.

that's because the 9007 mod is bad, second only to drop in HIDs. 9007 bulbs don't just use a higher wattage low beam filament than the 9004 bulbs, they also have a differently orientated filament for which the maxima headlight housings are not designed. and yes the fluting/reflection angles used to focus the light are that precise.

When I first got my I30, I slapped in some 6000K HIDs............Did it look good? Yes! Was the output better than stock? Hell Yes!! However, the light was scattered everywhere with NO cut off whatsoever...........what really made me decide to get a retro was one time I was driving past a car and my light reflected off his rear view mirror and blinded the hell out of me.

What I did then was made some custom glare shields to block out the light reflecting off the bottom of my headlights.....that helped a lot, but made the cutoff even worse.......finally I decided to do it properly. Once you retro, you'll realize how terrible HID kits in halogen housings really are.

That was before I got my '97-'99 housings and before I aimed them more downwards. Haven't been flashed for having my "high beams" on ever since.

Chrisman - Some people just dont want to hear it, no matter what you SHOW them. I've stood, knelt, and sat in front of my car. Ive sat in cars that were in front of my car. I've been thorough. I'm not saying it's 100% perfect. I'm saying it's 100% doable.
I barely get beamed, had the setup 2 years now.. probably been beamed 3 times. There IS stray light, but NOT MUCH AT ALL, like Erty said. Like I already stated, I have mine aimed down. I also baked mine apart, and while "AEing" them, also painted the entire inside bottom black, as well.. thats what gives my headlights a darker look when off. Probably also helped avoid stray light shining up high.
The pics that have been posted showing HIDs in reflector housings are just TERRIBLE!! Those must have been the worst install pics you could find. Mine dont look like that, at ALL. If I can find some straight-on pics of my setup, Ill post them up later..

You can take all the precautions you want (i.e. aiming them down, painting the reflector, etc) but it still has glare and could still potentially be dangerous.

Some people don't want to hear it, no matter what you SHOW them. HID in halogen housings are dangerous. Fine, you say you aim them down, but then you end up with ah sh*tload of foreground lighting constricting your pupils. Now, areas outside your beam pattern (that's if you even have one. ) will be a lot darker reducing your eyesight capability.
Also since our headlight use 9004 bulbs, even with aiming them down, certain sections of reflectors are designed for the high beam. These areas don't get illuminated with the low beam halogen, whereas with the HID capsule these areas are lit up ALL the time blasting on comers with GLARE!!

Some people, especially those in rice rockets...and that's also including Neons, Cavaliers, Focus, etc....don't want to hear it, see it, or admit it that having HID kits in halogens housings are glaring, blinding, dangerous, and not cool. The most common excuses are "they're aimed really low", "my doesn't glare like that", or "I've only been flashed a few times". Denial is a natural part of being humans because we all know there's an excuse for everything (i.e. we believe in what we want to believe). Just because you haven't been flashed or been told to your face that your headlights are glaring, it doesn't mean you're okay to drive around in it. Let's face it, folks, there's no excuse for HID kits inside halogen housings. Respect others' safety, starting with your own!

+1 atleast someone can put this is proper words, HIDs in 9004 housings DO NOT work despite how u aim them, i have been there and done that glare was impossibly bad

I meant that after he pointed them down, they would be even more useless than what I saw in the video, I found my camera, about how far were you from the wall? I'll take a video too. This is getting interesting.

Nice thread, I learn a lot.

But I have one question;

we say that on stock 4th gen housing , HID makes glare, but is-it on both housing, 95-96 and 97-99 ???

Because, if I take, for exemple, volvo s60 with halogen headlights and we put hid, it works juste fine, probally the housing look like 02 maximas...

The 95-96 housing WILL glare as well. The fluted lens might help a little bit, but not much at all. Look, some halogen housings will take HIDs better than others, as I don't know the Volvos that well, I can't comment, but I know for a FACT that Maximas and Infiniti's that didn't come with OEM xenon lights, glare like a **** when you put in a kit.
