Exhaust smell inside the car?
Hey guys, I was rear ended by a Ford Explorer on Sunday. Pics of it are on my cardomain page. Anyway, after the wreck Ive noticed Ive been smelling a gas or exhaust smell in the back of the car. The trunk was pushed up a little and doesnt seal so I taped up it up just in case it rains until it gets fixed. I really started noticing this after I taped up the trunk. Its either coming from the back or from the vents. Im not sure. I turned on the air and I cant smell it but it smells like it might be coming from them. I checked the gas pump and everything is fine there but I dont know where this smell is coming from. Any idea what it could be? Dont want the kids inhaling fumes if I have to take them some where.

[Edit]
I just saw your pics and it just looks like the regular fumes that escaped safely outside are now finding easier routes to get in, I would still check the inside of the trunk since it seems you live in a colder climate than I do (brown grass in your sig) and it could expose it too all of the wonderful rusting agents that winter brings along, that could affect the truck and exhaust.

well if the explorer hit the exhaust any number of leaks could have developed, especially if it's the original exhaust system that has been weakened by age and rust. get underneath and go along the piping, look for any cracks, creases, etc.

Not only can it be seeping in through the trunk, but also check the areas directly behind the rear wheels. Basically the bottom of the rear quarter panel behind the mud flap, but on the underside of the car. You'll have to get underneath to check it.
Not only damage from the accident, but also some rust tends to form there which leads to holes - and exhaust loves to creep up there to gain access to your trunk area, which then leads to creeping into the cabin. The panel will look prefect from the outside, but you have to check just underneath.
Your car is pretty darn clean looking though, you probably don't have any undercarriage rust issues!
