Bose died

My factory Bose unit just suddenly stopped working. Looks like there's no power at all. Checked the "audio" and "Bose" fuses under the dash and they're fine. Anything else obvious I should be looking at or is it time to start tearing the dash apart?

thx but was looking for advice on possible fix, not your opinion on the sound quality of the system.

That's just incorrect.

As for the OPs problem, if all the fuses are good, and the stereo is the only thing not working, I would guess that the problem is internal to the Bose unit. Or maybe you have a broken power wire, either way, you have to get to the harnesses to check for power to confirm its there (or not there), and for that you have to take apart the dash.

When you say "looks like there is no power at all", I suppose that means there is nothing on the display and the radio is unresponsive? In the 97 FSM, there are three fuses that control the Bose unit: 62 for the memory in the radio, 21 for an "ignition on" signal, and 22 to power the remote amps. I would think only 62 and 21 would cause the radio to lose power though.

Yeah, no power, no display at all. Happened suddenly as a cd was playing. checked 21 and 22 (audio and Bose). Not sure where 62 is - under the dash? Didn't see any numbers that high in the fuse panel. And to JNCoRacer - I've checked a bunch of threads in the audio section - nothing that appears to answer my question though.

Check under the hood for 62. I think it's next to the battery.

I know you already figured this out, but might I suggest you download the Factory Service Manual for your year.

Thats how I knew what fuses to look for. It would have also told you which wires to look for without wasting your time searching.

My CD player says "Err" and occasionally the power button and display are touchy. A few taps clears that up though. The sound quality is great, and my last car was a '96 Lexus LS 400 with the $2,000 Nakamichi stereo option!

Getting the screws out seems to be a common issue. I just went through the death of a Bose HU. I tried tapping them with hammer, manhandling with a stubby screwdriver, and even a cordless drill set to a medium clutch kind of like an impact wrench. I ended up having to drill two of them out. Sounds a little extreme but after removing it again the remaining screws had cinched back up nearly as tight.

even if the fuses "appear ok, they may not be. Swap the proper ones out with ones you know are good and see if that helps. The exact same thing happend to my 94 corolla. The fuses looked perfect. Swapped them out and it worked fine after
