Is this the way you bypass the KS in the picture its a 470k resistor in the connector.

Looks like it, this has to be like the 7th knock sensor related thread this week.. could've probably asked in the current KS thread.

If you really want to know if thats correct, go clear your CEL and see if it comes back with P0325 / 034. No offense but its not rocket science.

that is about how we did it but that does not esplain why we are still getting a KS code?

Well, for starters... you didn't say you had problems, You just asked if it was done right. That question was answered in a KS resistor writeup thread posted no more than 2 weeks ago and perhaps bumped this week. Next time try umm providing a little more information in your initial post so you dont get that criticism you don't like.

I dont think i asked if it was rocket science buddyand i dont think i asked for criticism. Reread the first thread again no rocket science or criticism in the question.

does'nt matter if the sensor is backwards or not. how you have it hooked up that could be a problem too.
if you splice into each side of the wire and do it like that.

also does the ks resistance supposed to be 470k ohm?

i did the ks bypass (on one side so far)on my q45....that ***** moves!!

this link says 500-620k ohms so maybe we have been using the wrong resistor.

yea the 3rd gen and q45 uses 470k ohm.
becuase once it "sees" the "sensor" the code should clear.

This resistor hack has always perplexed me. The knock sensor is a piezoelectric element. These elements make a voltage when distorted by a force (like the concussion wave of detonation propagating through your engine block and head). I supposed that the element has a resistance (insulation leakage resistance), somewhere around 470K ohms (yellow-purple-yellow-gold in resister speak), and the ECU passes a voltage through and measures for an expected current to see if the sensor is there (or if the wireing is bad). As long as the sensor is there, and remains quiet (no knocks detected because a resister cannot detect them) timing goes on as normal. I guess I just answered my own question.

So basically, its like telling the brain the eyes are there, but not sending back any information about what your surroundings look like so you constantly bump into things and can't figure out why.

If you want to do it "right" (that's an oxymoron) follow the link The Wizard posted. If you want to do it right (withouth the quotes) check here.

I did this with a 470K resistor and the code is not there.
