I highly doubt you could rent one. You can get one at autozone for $15 and I seen them at pepboys for $20. Also try walmart they have jack stands for $10 for a pair. Car jacks/ jack stands can be reused thousands of times. My dad still has his craftsman car jack and still gives it plenty of use; he bought it in '78.

As far as lug nuts I thought they were all the same size for passanger cars but I'm probably wrong. My old car ('90 626) and my moms new car ('02 sonota) all have the lug nut size as the maxima. Let's say I had a little bit of free time one day.

Hes talking about the size and thread pitch of the lug nuts and no not all cars the same. The 2 most popular sizes are 12x1.25 and 12x1.5 although there are a couple more sizes... maximas are 12x1.25

Whats quality? Jackstands and Jacks made in America

Yes you can lift the entire car off the ground. Get 4 jackstands and jack up one corner at a time and place a jackstand on each one and work your way around.

If you need a jack to raise the car completely off the ground, get a lift.

look online... you can find 2 ton hydraulic jacks for $10-$15 depending if small cylinder type or the bulkier floor jack on wheels. in fact look at sears web site for a craftsman jack. I got a 2.5 ton craftsman jack with 2 jack stands for $30 a few months back. ofcourse it was on sale.

there is a company that sells a complete hydraulic lift system for your garage. the type where you drive you car onto it and life it up like an auto shop. I saw it in Motor Trend (you know, the ads in the back) for i think $3,000. my friend also knows of a company that sells a lift system that lifts two wheels up (front or back) costing about $1,500. I say the best bet is craftsman.
