What to do with my a/c...
Did a little search, didnt quite find what i was looking, I have 2 questions.
My a/c no longer works, pretty set on it being the a/c clutch, so....
1) Is it possible to replace just the a/c clutch or does it need to be the a/c compressor w/ clutch? I've heard it can't be taken off but has anybody figured a way out yet?
and...
2) This may be a dumb question, but my Maxima is a 99....is there an a/c compressor from a different nissan that my be compatible and fit?

Yes they are different. You need the clutch removal tool and you can buy a new clutch. My a/c clutch on my '99 just broke and I'm currently running a smaller belt to bypass the a/c. No local stores had the correct a/c clutch tool and since it's winter I just bypassed it. After reading a few threads I have found that you can buy a bearing as well so I will be replacing the bearing and clutch as soon as I figure out where I can get the clutch removal tool. If you replace the entire compressor then you have to deal with the refrigerant.

Ok, seems we are in the same boat. Now where would you find a clutch at? i've checked at a few auto stores, and they dont sell them by itself...im debating whether to go look at a junkyard...

My bearings went out in my 99 calsonic. I am in the same boat as you. I rented the puller from autozone, but one of the c clips was bent and i need replacement and I need the bearing. Where do you get these?
Does the dealer even sell the clips separately?
Autozone said the bearing was out of stock. LOL.
I guess I'll just go to a local bearing place and have them spec it.
We have presses at work...seems pretty simple to press the current one out and swap a new one in.
I originally thought it was the idler pulley so after I replaced that I replaced this one. It really is probably a job to take in if you do not have patience because its a lot of ripping apart to get to it. I'd say its a medium level job.
