Injector or Coil issue? Ways to test it?

Car hesitates when you give it a gas in pretty much any gear. Does that little shake that you can feel. Very crappy in the bottom end. Even in first gear. Also when I am getting prepared to stop for a light or a sign I usually put it in Natural press the clutch in and step on the brakes only to have the idle dip below 400rpm and bounce back up to 600rpm once i fully stopped. Cleaned my maf sensor not to long ago, and did Throttle body and IACV last fall. Not sure it it will be those.

Also did a full tuneup NGK laser plats this past july.

Is there a way to test this without a O scope?

And what do I look for when trying to test the ohms with a DMM? ( just bought a really good one like 2nd best to fluke DMM and I want to put it to some use.

I am sure there is a white up somewhere that shows how to test the injectors, MAF and coil packs with a DMM but I wanna see if these are the issues first.

To test injectors...take a long screw driver and set it to the injector and then just put your ear to the screw driver. You'll hear the tap tap tap.

To test the coil packs, just unplug one...see if the idle changes (if it does - good coil...if it doesn't, bad coil)...then plug it back in and go to the next one.

If you do find a bad coil, try swapping that coil to another cylinder and see if it's still dead. This will definitely tell you if its the coil or wiring issue.

Coilpacks can be fine at idle and light throttle but cause hesitation problems at higher throttle positions. My beater max did this when I purchased it.

Did you check for codes? The ECU should detect that misfire by now. Check the TPS as well, make sure the sweep is linear.

Listening to the injectors isnt that reliable either. I did that last week...heard them ticking...but when I tested them they were way out of range. Replaced the 3 bad injectors and the car runs smooth now.

i just replaced my maf.. my car was doing the same thing..

i dunno if you read my other thread about my PROBLEM WITH MY CAR..

i did an injector balance test, and cleaned out my EGR and UIM. and finally after putting everything together. my MAF was really bad, it went out. maybe you can replace MAF? go to the JY and find one.. they shouldn't but maybe 60-70 at the most.. but i duno about your area. other than that... all i can say is good luck.

If you have never replaced coils, and have the $, replace them. They are probably the probelm. Even if they aren't the cause, your car should run better. once you straighten everything else out. I had the samething going on and it was coils, car runs great now. I was throwing a misfire code though....

Yeah, I never replaced the coils. They were not cracked or melted in any way. So they had physical shape. but spending $480 on all new coils ant really in my budget. =/

Why the hell would you spend $500 on brand new coils when there are tons of sets of good used coils for sale on the .org for like $75...

Your right. I would never pay $500! However, I got a band new set of OEM coils for $160 on ebay! I didn't want used, too much of a gamble for me.

Used coils are good to go for? Like no issues?

Why would it be any different than buying any other part used?

OP - I had a very similar problem as you described in your 1st post. However, mine stopped shaking by changing the spark plugs. I had replaced 4 (since I couldn't get to 1 & 3) then one weekend, got frustrated and tried it again... and made helluva difference. Are you 100% certain they were all changed with your tuneup?

This is an oxygen sensor code.

But another cause could be air leaks in the intake system. Perhaps a hose is still disconnected, or you have a leaking gasket somewhere.

Did the car act the same before you took the upper intake manifold off this time? I mean the miss and the code.

If yes, suspect an oxygen sensor.

If not, suspect an air leak

I'm guessing the latter. P
