if you have a US maxima that was never modified you do not have VLSD. No 4th gen in the US was sold with VLSD. The I30t was, as was the canadian SE at one point.

I started the car today first time in past week. well we were driving it from my back yard to the front and when its in D it dont go NOWHERE only rev up and when i put it into 1st gear it moves around 3000RPMS

well when i got to my front yard after probably 3 minutes of spining at 3000RPM the transmission dip stock was blowing out white smoke so i took out the dip stick and a lot of smoke came out didn't smell nasty just lil funny not like gears either. what would cause it to smoke?

it has ATF with Lucas stop slip and a little Brake Fluid.

you can also use the trans from a 96-99 I30t, but it has VLSD and uses different axles.
VERY common for 96-98 non touring I30's to have the $500 "Traction enhancement package" added to the car........... aka VLSD. It also came standard on ALL '99 I30's.

I have to go over this alot,I wish the damn I30 stickies would get edited for this and the perforated seats.

Your tranny tech is a hack, idiot, or scammer if he didn't take a line pressure measurement before commenting on "this or that", Either that or you weren't being generous ($) enough. Either way I bet it's low, I would suspect the pump or pressure valves, either way @ 1/4 million miles you would want to just get a yard tranny for $100.

Who cares, it has 260K and it's fubar'd, put another one in it, and a new radiator AT THE SAME TIME. Or bypass the stock cooler & add your own.

don't bypass the factory cooler, just add the extra one inline to the hoses, a little more work but not too bad.
