Any Sticky on How to Pull Auto Tranny From 95 Maxima?

I searched and can't find any stickys or review with pics on how to change transmission's on 95 Maxima.

Not sure if their is even one. if not then can someone let me know anything before i start the job. ive changed plenty 5spd tranny but never a automatic. i read a book saying if you don't align the tranny to the engine the right way you can destroy the new tranny.

Just want to know what they ment by this thanks, and any other stuff i should know before my tranny swap.

Thanks,

Thanks,
do it the same as you would a M/T swap. the A/T is easier because there is no clutch to align.

During re-installation, there is one thing you may want to keep in mind about the torque converter:

When you begin to mate the trans case to the engine, make sure the converter is fully seated in the transmission. If this is not done, the converter will protrude too far and be in a bind against the flywheel. This will prevent you from installing the flywheel to converter bolts also.

NO!!
the converter stays on the trans until it is bolted in, then you bolt the converter to the flywheel.

don't you have a copy of the FSM? Any year should do.

I did a automatic Honda engine and the tranny was a ***** to get it to align to the engine but the converter was bolted to the flywheel.

Turn the crank/flywheel by the crank pully bolt; use the bolt hole on the tranny to tighten the TC. Get a FSM/Haynes manual

it's easy.
in fact i was *****ing about the fact that it was harder to change the struts all around on my friends chevy lumina.
i made him feel bad when i told him i rather redo my trans again before doing this.

once the t/c is set-in properly.
you mate the tranny to the motor.
what you could do to help you is have the t/c holes line up with the flywheel holes.
there's an opening to access the bolts (it's only 4 bolts too).
you can turn the crank yourself. and dont worry about having to hold the rachet the opening and the cross member will do the for you.

Also, Can i just remove the K member and drop the transmission side of the entire engine/tranny and take out the tranny like that? or should i pull whole motor/tranny?

What is a Sign of a Bad torque converter? mine only slipped and slowly got worse. Also when i take down the torque converter does the flywheel need to be resurfaced like a standard? Or depends on how it looks?

there is no "flywheel" on an A/T. It is a flexplate with a ring gear welded to it.

Usually when a TC fails you get no movement as you have stripped something internally. a new TC should run in the $100 range.

yes you need to fill it before installation
190 new? find a place that sells to the trans shops and see if they will sell you one. It will be rebuilt.

Ok, I'm pulling the tranny next few days, one more question should i reuse my torque converter? it has 280k miles. the tranny started slipping and now it will start moving at 5k RPMS just a little bit and reverse same thing.

Or MAYBE my torque converter is bad and tranny is good?

try replacing the t/c first its cheaper than a new trans or rebuilt one if that doesnt work then get a rebuilt one and yes u will need to fill the t/c before installin

you do not need to take the exhaust off ther is plenty of room

you should be able to do the swap with engine in the car

is their A way to pull my old transmission out with the flexplate still attched to the motor? i cannot find the spot where i go in the back to loosen the bolts for the TC to the flexplate, i dont see anywhere i could get into it to do that.

any pics? to me it seems like i need to pull the engine down to the side also but not sure. were working on it now and seems hard.

where is the plate i can remove to get to the TC bolts? thanks!

there is a hole..well mine has a cover over it. remove the cover which is located at the bottom of the bell housing. you remove that you can some see the bolts of the t/c. you can see the flex plate though.

someone or you is gonna have the turn the crank pulley.
while turning the pulley you MUST keep and eye out for the bolt...or either feel for it.
there's 4 bolts for the t/c
