Lower rad support fix-North NJ
i've posted on the regional forums as well but i figure i'll get more input on the actual 4th gen forum..anyways the lower radiator support on my maxima is pretty much rusted apart and it's in need of R&R..before i start looking around at local shops i'd just like to see if anyone on the org can do the work, or can recommend someone local to north jersey
thanks!

If you are doing it yourself, get an air hammer or a spot weld bit to drill out the spot
welds on your way to remove the radiator support.
The only other thing I would do before installing the new OEM piece is protecting it with some sort of rust protectant, chances are the thing will rust again, but you can make it last longer between changes.
It's a pretty involved process, takes even a good mechanic 2 to 4 hours to do. Labor and parts upwards of $500 to $750.

A local member up here in Toronto had his done back in the early Fall. His Max is a 5th gen (2000) but suffered the same problem with a very rusted out lower rad support. I believe he paid 600.00 parts and labor here's a link with some photo's of before and after.

I had this job done the cheap way. My mechanic cut cheap bed frame to fit, the L-shape kind, and weld it on. It had to be fixed b/c I needed new motor mounts.
The original support lasted me 11 yrs before I had to fix it, if these bed frames give me a few years, then that's fine with me. It's a part no one really sees, so why bother spending so much on it.
