How my new Mexican reman Duralast starter from AZ sounds

Here's how my new starter sounds. I didn't record the before, but it was schreeching for a couple of weeks.

I'm told the "whine" will tone down after awhile but I kinda like it.

What does Mexico have to do with it? Keep your racist connotations to yourself.

He just means it was remanufactured in Mexico. Mighty sensitive aren't you.

It doesn't matter where it was re-man'd, or how racist you are. I kinda like the sound. My 99 GLE just turned 100K this afternoon. Yea! I think I'll keep it for another 100k.

Maybe he said that so we could possibly narrow down the problem to a specific re-manufacturing plant?

I don't think he was being racist. Chillax

sounds a little winy but i wouldn't waste my time exchanging it. it will probably fail in the next few months anyway and you can get a new on there. Kind of reminds me of the sound the honda pilot/acura mdx make when they are starting

I've been through a couple of Advance Auto starters. They don't last. I'm running a used OE now. Seems to have more torque. The ones from Advance didn't always crank fast enough. The OE starts it up quick.

did you get a 95-96 starter or a 96-99 starter? the later one starts faster because it has a different drive gear for faster cranking. Yes they are 100% interchangeable and can make a boatload of difference in cranking times.

It's a 96-99. I didn't realize there was difference in gearing. Good to know. Next time I have to replace it I'll make sure I get this one again.
BTW, I took apart the one I got from Advance and it was jam-packed with black dust from the demolished brushes.

I actually went through 3 starters from AutoZone. I know they don't work as well, but it was all that I could afford at the time. And it sounds exactly the same way, but it starts fast and all.

Oh, and the 3 starters were killed in a matter of 1 day, all thanks to my alarm killing them. Took it off, and it works fine just now. ( I wish I hadn't thrown the old one away =\ )

I got a starter from a dealership a few years ago... thing lasted ~18 months. A starter is a starter, almost everyone of you get for a 4th is gonna be rebuilt so it really depends on how the rebuild it. $90 Duralast with Lifetime Warranty > $300 rebuilt dealership starter IMHO.

as long as the car starts who cares?
